Driving Ms Daisy MacGregor, or the crazy lengths we can go to get a special club.

Coming up shortly is a 3 hour driving round trip into a city which scares me out of my shorts (Brisbane) to pick up a second hand 9 iron for my MacGregor Reverse Draft iron set With a ton of luck on my side the seller may also have the matching 7i that I'm also missing - the clubs came from her FIL whom I assume is either playing 18 in a non-returnable situation, or too ill to play. Whatever, obviously a man of good taste, I will honour and care for his beloved club/s. Wish me luck

I once drove 70 miles to buy a set of clubs for £14, incurring a £60 speeding ticket en route. Good job that goes against a different budget category in the household expenses :)

I understand about driving into the city. I used to drive into downtown Pittsburgh on business for years. The traffic patterns seemed to get worse every year. I live about 30 miles north of downtown, and it seems like my area is getting worse and worse, too. It's been at least 15 years since I drove into downtown. I really don't think I have the skills to drive in that congestion any more. It's like, if you don't use it, you lose it.

 

I've saved a ton of money by not driving to buy golf stuff, due to my aversion to heavy traffic and jams.

My BIL is from Philly and he wouldn't drive within 50 miles of the city

Well I didn't score a Mac #7 iron but my trusty GPS got me there and back (except one wrong lane turn I made and the GPS responded "RECALCULATING, RECALCULATING, where the hell you think you're going buddy?") unfortunately it was a long weekend and the main arterials were in gridlock. The #9 was in excellent condition. I did later fluke a Tommy Armour #7 about the same vintage and it fits with my set. Next time I'll use a courier.

Just learned that there is a recycle shed not far from here with hundreds of clubs - it's only 50kms away through a snake and crocodile infested swamp (just kidding) but can't go there for 3 weeks - cry me a river. Should I hire somebody to go through the entire collection and buy anything with "MacGregor" on it?

A bit off the entended topic, but, will be paired in today's senior Palmetto event with a guy that is notorious for insisting his cart partner drive. One of the other guys in our group has dubbed him "Miss Daisy."

Looks like I am the designated driver this morning.
