Traveling to Fairhope, AL

Howdy gents, traveling down to Fairhope, AL to visit my dad sometime mid November it looks like.

 

Was wondering if there are any reasonably priced courses worth the $$$ and hauling the clubs along.

 

I'm a 20 cap so don't need something amazing, just an engaging layout with solid greens!

 

Don't know if I'll get to play more than once, so may not drag the bag down. But figured I'd ask and see!

Lakewood courses are close and spectacular!

Kiva dunes is about a 30 minutes away also one of my favorite courses.

Timber creek is close and affordable.

Those are just a few. Ton of great courses in the area

Rock Creek is another great option that is cheaper then Lakewood and close by. Kiva is a good 45 minutes away but is my favorite down that way. I haven't played Timber Creek since June but will be playing it next week and late you know. If it hasn't changed I would put it on the bottom of your list

I assumed Lakewood would be expensive, tied in with Marriott and all, greens fees? overrated?

 

Kiva dunes looks awesome! Not cheap, worth the 100 bucks?

Rock Creek is without a doubt your best option here. I am a member at Craft Farms. Timber Creek is not in good shape as of a month ago. If your going to drive down from Fairhope, Kiva is fantastic. We just overseeded on Cotton Creek at CF, Cypress greens are as good as I have seen them.

I played Lakewood last weekend while staying at the Grand. Course was in good shape, but not sure it is worth the $130 rack rate. I have a trail card so ended up paying $75 (or thereabouts). I've played both courses at Lakewood and they are nice courses, but not worth what they charge IMO. Next time I go down, I will check out some of the other courses in the area.

Looking at going down to Fairhope/Point Clear this winter. We will be staying at the Grand Hotel where the Lakewood Club is located BUT, based on google earth, the course looks....quirky (to be polite). A lot of forced layups off the tee, trees everywhere, water in random places....is Rock Creek still a good option? I don't need private club conditions but would like to be able to hit driver a few times on a golf course and Lakewood seems to prevent that at all costs.
