Favorite Private Clubs Atlanta

I'm looking for recommendations for the best/favorite private golf clubs in or near Atlanta.

By far and away the best course in/near Atlanta is Peachtree Golf Club. Everything else towards the top is dependent on personal preference:

 

Ansley Golf Club - Settindown Creek (although I enjoy the midtown 9 and think it's one of the most fun courses in the city and always in pristine condition)

Atlanta Athletic Club - Highlands & Riverside

Atlanta Country Club

Capital City Club - Brookhaven & Crabapple Courses

Cherokee Town & Country Club - North & South

Druid Hills Golf Club

East Lake Golf Club

Golf Club of Georgia

Hawks Ridge

Horseshoe Bend

Marietta CC

Piedmont Driving Club

Pinetree CC

River Club

 

Lots and lots of others. You can pretty much find any private golf at any price point in the area. There isn't a lack of private facilities. Public is more limited compared to the private offering here in the area.

Thank you for the information! That is an awesome list. I'll be in town for a couple of days in the spring Andy am looking for some places to play. I want to give some options to my home club to see where they can get us on.

Peachtree Golf club is absolutely incredible, but VERY hard to get on.

Some of the clubs on the list would be tough to get on, even with a pro's phone call. Settindown is my favorite in town and they are usually accommodating and not as stuffy as some others would be. Standard Club is also a great course and generally easy to deal with.

If you are not finding much success on that list, I would give a call out to Rivermont. It is a ton of fun to play, family owned and the Bermuda greens are great out there. Standard Club is a good round. St. Ives is another one you could try to call as well. I also really enjoy making the drive up to play Cartersville CC. Plus if you are up there, you will have a very good chance to run into a Tour player that is taught by Scott Hamilton.

 

Of that list you may have success with would be Settindown, Athletic Club (depending on if your club has any relationship with their golf shop), East Lake (be prepared to pay a pretty high rate + caddie fees), Pinetree, and outside shot at Cap City Crabapple (if it is a weekday, that course is usually pretty slow as it is far out relative to where the membership lives mostly in town). That said, I would at least ask for them to make a call to Peachtree...what's the worst that could happen, they say no?

 

You are better off trying to play these privates than the public offerings that we have.

Some realistic options in my opinion are:

1. Rivermont (I was a member there for two years and love the course).

2. Atlanta Athletic Club (played the Highlands course and loved everything about the experience).

3. Standard Club (a bit stuffy but a great course and really good food in the clubhouse).

4. CC of the South (ClubCorp run and shouldn't be hard to get on).

5. St. Ives (always in great shape and never seems to be anyone around you when you play).

6. River Club (the only one on my list I'm not sure about but I know they do a lot of charity tournaments and think they're open to reciprocal play).

True, I presumed this was referencing a call from a pro at his home course to arrange reciprocal play.

If you have $ to piss away, I guess it's worth $400 for the experience? I wouldn't pay more than $150.

I played in a tourney at AAC for $150. It was well worth that amount. Not worth anything more than that though IMO.
