Fenix 3 and golf?

Should I buy it so I get great battery life, large screen?

 

If you use it for golf please respond before sales end on this product.

The Fenix 3 HR is a fantastic device. I also purchased it during the holiday sale. It's the best time of the year to purchase. It won't drop below $599 again till next Christmas unless another version is released.

 

For Golf, it's great on my home courses or courses where I've played before and im familiar with the distances to the hazards. It provides quick and accurate F/M/B yardage and has fantastic battery life. A round consumes about 25% over 4 hours.

 

I've recently been venturing out to play other courses and I'd like a map of the hazards etc. I think that's available on the golf specific watches (x40, S series). The other limitation is no FIR, GIR or number of putts tracked. Hopefully they add this via an update in 2017. The Garmin connect app has the data fields but there's no way to document the data on the device during the round.

 

If you are not going to wear the Fenix every day, and if you only need a golf specific device, maybe the x40 or s6 would be a better deal at half the price. I have not used them but they are options. My dad games the s4 and he likes it.

 

I run, cycle, walk and hike regularly so my Fenix hardly leaves my wrist. The golf app is a plus. To get hazard distances I plan to use Golf Pad when necessary.

I agree with Gollie.

 

I have the fenix with the heart rate chest strap and use it for Crossfit 4-5 times a week. It is an awesome sports watch. It is ok for golf.

 

I had the Microsoft band but got tired of always charging it and it wasn't as functional for a watch. I also have taken up swimming and the Band was not waterproof. The Fenix is.

 

For golf, I use it to supplement my laser range finder. We have a few holes at my course that have shots that are blind to the green --this helps with that problem.

 

It is also nice to measure your distances for tee shots and such.

 

But, if you want a really golf specific watch, this is not it.

 

If you want a multi sport waterproof and somewhat rugged watch, this is for you.

I never used it for golf, but I found it to be an overpriced excessive GPS watch for the discerning gym rat. Too bulky and the HR functionality was subpar.

 

You don't need gadgets to play golf successfully, just as you don't need gadgets to work out.

IMO, the F3 is too bulky and heavy for golf. I wouldn't want to use it for fitness either due to size and weight. For that reason I use a Forerunner 735xt for training and a dedicated G5 for golf. I get much more info from the G5 than the simple yardages that I'd get from a F3.

 

MJisGOAT, there are so many reasons to use a device like the Fenix or Forerunner for training if you really want to monitor and use tools to improve. If you are just jogging for fun or lifting weights, then yeah, no need. If you are working on goals then they are a great tool when paired with the chest strap hrm.

I know the update allows for distances to the green etc, but can you also still record the exercise part - walk, pace, elevation etc?
