Its when the price of an asset moves opposite to an indicator, often a technical indicator.

 

I cant imagine any individual trying to trade against the systematic trading funds these days.

 

Your trying to compete with a room full of MIT PdDs using supercomputers, Artificial Intelligence, and can drop millions in and out of a position before you even set a limit.

If you want to understand more about buying and selling stocks perhaps give Investors Business Daily a read. They produce a book titled How to Make Money In Stocks. They also have a lot of material on their website investors.com.

 

In essence they believe in both Fundamental and Technical trading. Find a fundamentally sound stock then trade based on technical formations in the chart. Timing to buy a stock is not like catching a falling knife. Solid breakouts from formations like a cup and handle can give you the advantage. They also have solid money rules like take losses when they are small and etc.
