Address - Are the arms extended?

They say that the left arm should be extended. Should either or both the arms be extended at address? Or can they both be relaxed and slightly bent?

personally, I think it depends on your swing. extension and width promote speed, and an extended left arm gets you width. for my swing, I try to have lots of extension, so if I start with relaxed arms I end up hiting the ground before I get to the ball. I think the key is to keep a consistent amount of extension in the left arm, which I have to believe is easier to achieve if you keep the arm extended.

Don't confuse arms extended with arms sticking out straight from the shoulders. Your arms should still be hanging down signifigantly so the butt of the shafts points at your belt buckle. They will be extended and not relaxed in this position.

I try and setup with my arms in a relaxed position and let them hang from my shoulders keeping me in a balanced and stabelized stance with the grip point at my belt (AS BELOW). From that position I can establish a good coil around my legs set my lag and move straight at the target and catch it flush. I find that if I set my hands to far away from me, it has come to the point where I feel myself stretching or reaching to the ball and a restart my routine, if I foolishly "pull the trigger" I hit a cut or fade type shot and at times this is useful but I catch it off the toe and would rather just open the face to create that ball flight than lose my balance. A relaxed setup works for me but I do know plenty of golfers are able to play high level golf using a more outstretched golf stance creating a flatter plane.

 

 

 

These stances may feel and look as though they are extended slightly but to me it feels tension free.
