The second commandment

"You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God".

 

I guess there are commandments on this site against talking about religions since there are once against politics. but this is a purely psychological thread start..

 

Thing is, i pondered a little over the F-bomb at APB yesterday. Thing is, that word does not really violate the second one prescribed on Mose's stone tables. And the scandinavian ones, a little different since we are individuals rather than family members up here, are almost exclusively connected with the devil, ergo not violating the second either.

 

And you will use those regular invectives in frustration, in anger, but not when it really counts. Then, seemingly, you will go for the core of your religion. I will use some words here, but with signs to try to not upset the church, mosque or synagogue going people here. I need to make a point and I do not think I violate any commandments doing that.

 

What you will say when the sh*t really hits the fan is things like "Oh, my G*d" or "J*sus f*cking chr*st", . All the time. I am really serious to the subject now so i do not mean any disrespect, but I do remember 9/11, Very well as most middle aged + people do. And what you hear, on youtube clips, from all people shouting is calls to god, or references in that direction. I did not hear one single F-bomb.

 

And that is maybe fitting, and say something about us as people. Guys like Nietzsche and Sartre thought that we had "killed G*d" with the natural sciences explaining everything. But I think that exclamations in times of need shows something. For another thing, just try one day to respect that commandment. Almost impossible. I know it in my maiden language and is almost certain that it is the same in most other languages. when you want to express deeper feelings in words it's almost impossible not to use the name of G*d. And that is maybe since we do have some kind of inner need for a greater power? Or something?

 

When things get even harder, and we fear for our own lives, there is an even stronger power that gets called upon, your Mother. It is strange, I have said it once or twice over the years as an adult, and it comes from some place deep, deep within.

 

Maybe we are not only walking piles of DNA and results of natural selection. And maybe what we say is always fitting. Maybe, the prohibiting of saying this or that is only constructs for social reasons, to control other people?

I don't think that's the 2nd commandment.

 

Don't use god's name in vain. It's pretty black and white. If a person believes in the word then ethically they know it's wrong to misuse his name. I don't think it can be justified. I find it easy to avoid using that word.

Anyone you love with all of your heart, soul and mind, you then won't throw their name around as if it were not so to you. That starts with God. It can also apply to your girlfriend, wife, kids, mom, grandmother etc. etc. It's a matter of true respect and integrity from the heart. But if it doesn't start with Him, then how could one say they really care from within about anyone?
