Edinburgh to North Berwick Transportation

Curious if others have tips on the best ways to get to and from Edinburgh to North Berwick. We're staying in Edinburgh for a few days and won't have a car while there, but have a round at North Berwick. I see the train runs fairly regularly from Waverly Station and it looks like the terminus is pretty close to the golf course, and is probably the cheapest method. Is taking a taxi practical? I'm sure it would be more expensive, but there are a two of us and we're not that concerned with costs. Recommendations?

Train is easily the best and fastest option. Catch it at Waverly, it drops you in town. You don't need a cab on that end, just walk to the West Links. Which, by the way, is among the best links courses in Scotland. A true treat, and I am jealous of you. The club is warm and inviting to visitors, the course is fantastic, and the scenery great. And NB is a great town.

Train is easily the best and fastest option. Catch it at Waverly, it drops you in town. You don't need a cab on that end, just walk to the West Links. Which, by the way, is among the best links courses in Scotland. A true treat, and I am jealous of you. The club is warm and inviting to visitors, the course is fantastic, and the scenery great. And NB is a great town.

Thanks! I certainly do get the feeling NB is very warm and inviting, and their booking secretary has been very responsive and helpful. can't wait for the trip!

Agree 100%...played NB last September - was awesome. Definitely worth the time & effort to get out there!

I did have a rental car - the drive from Edinburgh was no problem. Got to see Gullane along the way - but no sight of Muirfield (or else I missed it)

We had the opportunity to play Muirfield while we were in the area. You could easily miss it driving by. It is on the edge of Gullane, you need to look for Duncur Road. Not really very well marked, on purpose I think. Really a special place. I can understand how it is a top 10 in the world kind of course. It is.
