Is a 2deg lie angle adjustment significant?

So after 10 years or so I went to one of those computerized places just to get numbers and checks (from a class A pro). It appears that my blades are about 2 degrees flat (toe down). We only checked lie with a 6 iron. I'm playing Hogan Apex Grinds with Hogan tour weight graphite shafts.

I'm pretty sure these were fine may years ago and attribute it to becomming old and fat and probably not being able to bend over as far any more... I also understand that forged clubs can bend a bit with use as well (I used to be a "digger" but fixed that 5 or 6 years ago) but vaguely remember that more effected loft than lie? I don't think loft has changed since my clubs go as far as I think they should.

My question is if a 2 degree lie adjustment is minute, small, or moderate? I guess I may have been compensating/adjusting for this with swing modifications over the years.

You want to get you lies looked at for all your clubs. The more loft on the club bigger the deal is. For as easy of a fix as it is I would just get all your irons done. Peace of mind. So yes

I will be getting all my irons done Monday. I was just wondering how subtle (or unsubtle) the effect will be and if I can expect to be making some swing adjustments to undo changes I may have made to compensate. After possibly years of playing with clubs that are too flat is it likely that I've been doing things to compensate for that? Or would it just be a matter of my off center/mis-hits not being so bad?

You would be suprised how good our sub-consious mind is at making changes so things work out better.

I'm shocked at how many clubmakers only test one iron for lie and thnk that every other club will be the same. Every club need to be lie tested - for tolerance reasons alone. Lie angles can be out of tolerance by up to a degree which can mean a up to 2* differential between a tested 6i and a non-tested PW. WHen I tested mine I had about half not need adjusted and half needing 1* up.

i heard that for every degree off equals ten yards offline. i can say that this is true. i bought some used wedges and could tell that the lies were too upright for me, but thought it wasn't THAT bad, so i played with them. after losing a ball in the woods off of a lob wedge, i said, thats enough and got them fixed and WOW. what a difference!

I thought about that and just assumed there is a formula...

I'm 5'11" and have pretty standard address angles that I actually manage to return to on my fore swing. We checked that with the camera. All my irons are shafted with the same shaft and standard/consistent graduation in length (heh, actually made at Hogan by Tom Kite's club maker way back when :cheesy: ). So given that, wouldn't you be able to apply a formula using the correct measured angle of a given club in the set to determine the absolute angle for the rest?

For my case: Use the camera at impact to determine the adjustment needed for my 6 iron. Adjust. Measure the adjusted angle. Apply formula to the rest of the irons to determine the absolute angle for each? Or doesn't it work that way. I understand that some players might have a different swing (from normal) for long irons as opposed to short or may address/swing a particular short iron very differently than the rest of their short irons.

I was going to bring this up with the guy when I drop them off. If we don't check each one before bending I will be sure to have them spot checked (swing with the camera) afterwards. Would spot checking be sufficient? Like check the 4, 7, PW, S.

You are playing with forged blades. They are very easy to bend on a machine. They also are easy to bend with normal play

Each club must be checked and set accordingly. That class A whatever did not do it properly.

I haven't had any adjusted yet. I will be going there tomorrow or Monday for that. I'll make sure we check each one at impact with the high speed camera before bending. Thanks for the heads up.
