Early 9 in mid-October near Seattle Airport

I will be visiting Olympic NP with some buddies in mid October. Some have early flights on Monday 10/16. I'm not leaving until 3 pm. I'm thinking if I get out early I have time for 9 maybe 18 if I get going soon enough. But 9 would be good enough. I have a bucket-list to play at least 1 muni-course in each of the 50 states.

 

Looking on google earth for courses close to the airport. I see, Foster Golf Links, Riverbend Golf, Jefferson Park, and West Seattle.

 

I want to make sure it's public of course and needs to be a few minutes Uber from the airport. I'm staying Sunday night near the airport.

 

Anyone have any suggestions.

 

Also, what can I expect for the weather in mid-October?

Foster is the closest to the airport, followed by Riverbend. Both courses have a river that flows through them and if the rainy season has started you can expect Foster to be pretty muddy. Riverbend has drained better over the last few seasons so it might be in better shape. In regards to toughness, both are fairly flat but Foster is really short.

 

West Seattle is a little over 20 minutes from the airport and is notoriously slow. Jefferson is about 20 minutes from the airport and is an OK course but not my favorite. They did a nice remodel of the clubhouse though.

Thank you so much, that is extremely helpful. What is the weather tyypically like that time of year. Cold?, wet?, dry? I have rain gear if needed. Coming from SE Texas anything below 65 is cold!!! ;-).

Weather is hit or miss around then. Plan for mid 50's as an avg. Riverbend is a great track, suggest that over Foster if you can swing it. Hope the weather is good for you!

Weather these day are not the usual pattern.

If you could keep an eye on the weekly forecast from one of the internet venue to plan ahead.

 

Aerification month is September here. so expect some sandy greens.

 

Traffic is 4th worst in the Nation close to the Metro area, so I would not venture far from your destination. I would give minimum 2 to 2 1/2 hour lead time to your departure time from the golf course.

 

I would recommend Jefferson Park in the past for drier playing condition in October but, they are doing some changes in the back nine, so the golf course has 6 PAR 3 ( with #11 shortened from a great par 4 into a par 3 because of the neighborhood complain to the City of errant tee shots not being protected after the bordering trees died off ) also shortened the #12 par 3..

 

If you can tee off first half an hour of day light, I don't see why not have enough time to play the 18 within a 20 miles radius. Although you won;t have time for anything else.

Maplewood would be another option and is probably closer to SeaTac than west seattle or Jefferson. That being said I'd go early and play 18 at west seattle.
