Why not a Staff Bag?

Watching the end of the Senior Tour event, I noticed Tom Kite's caddy had what appeared to be a retail stand bag. Does anyone have an idea why he did rate a Staff bag.

its not uncommon to have a wife or a girlfriend carrying the bag for a tour player. Seen a lot of them carrying a stand bag

have you ever lugged a staff bag around a course for a week?

A caddie is not "capable" because he or she can carry a staff bag.

I've seen a fair shaft of professionals with stand bags, I like the staff bag more not because it looks good but because my stuff is better organized over being cluttered in the stand bag. I think thats why you see them everyday on tour, but sometimes I have to give my caddy a break. I wouldn't wanna carry a 50pound bag for 4 rounds in 90* heat, whenever he pisses me off I keep the stand bag in witness protection!

I didn't see the tournament, but Tom Kite has had, as his regular caddie, for sometime now, Sandy Jones. She's great... real personal, bubbly personality. Have spoken with her at the practice range at some tournament sites. Not having seen the tourney this past weekend, I don't know if it was her "on the bag". To my knowledge, Sandy has always carried a regular sized Staff Bag. Give her credit!! She doesn't wimp out!

CBWrxer is corrrect. I met Tom and Sandy during the US Senior open at Salem in 2001. I walked 18 holes with Tom a week before the tournament. it was just 5 of us including a few members. Sandy is probably one of the best caddies on the Sr. Tour or PGA. She could carry for anybody. Anyway, at the time she was carrying his Titleist Staff bag, which on the 18th she said to me "feel how light this is", she let me pick it up. I think Tom had maybe 6 balls in the bag a few tees, because the bag was super light. I'm sure the reason is for the weight, I also noticed some guys on tour not using the big honker anymore as well, but not a lot. btw- Sandy was 1st class just like Tom. Great people.

I believe during the US Amateurs that Laura Diaz caddied for her brother while pregnant (4 months?). Instead of carrying around a full tour staff bag, she carried a lighter bag. Whether it was a stand bag or a cart bag I'm not sure, but it does happen.

One of the things I notice about Amatuers is the stand bag. Even in the Masters, they stick out in a "nice' way.

I can't prove it, but the staff bags seem to get bigger and bigger every year. If they have anything inside them, they must weight 100lbs.

Sandy Jones is NOT Kite's daughter or girlfriend or anything else. She is from Minnesota. She is is a solid tour caddie, and the fact that she carries a stand bag and not a staff bag does not seem to bother Kite too much.
I have always been a little surprised that Sandy has continued so long with the stand bag; it never struck me as being all that hard to carry a staff bag. (As long as it wasn't Vijay's, with forty pounds of extra stuff including four kinds of weighted trianing clubs.) Maybe Sandy can actually carry more accessories and stuff in a light stand bag than she could in a staff bag.

Yep. Greg Kraft had a Titleist stand bag with du Pont University on it during the Nationwide Tour Championship.

Vijay's caddie may have to lug 4 kinds of weighted practice clubs to the range and back, but he isn't lugging them around the course unless Vijay's got a special exemption to carry 18 clubs in his bag.

Well you can carry a Speed Stik during a round, as long as you don't use it. And I do think I remember seeing Vijay's caddy carrying an extra club (weighted maybe?) during the Presiden't Cup.

What would be interesting is I remember during the PC that Vijay's caddy (pretty sure it was his) was lining up putts using a putter. Wonder if his putter counted as one of Vijay's 14.

Unless you are Fanny Sunneson she always carried the biggest staff bag ever for Nick Faldo. Nobody made one bigger than Mizuno 11 inch not these wimpy 10.5s of today.
