Help with golf course choice in MB

Barefoot or World Tour
I will be in Myrtle Beach in a couple weeks and have a few courses lined up to play, but if you had to choose between one of the Barefoot courses or the World Tour, which would it be and why?

This a family vacation, and I am getting 2 days to play (which of course will be 36 each day!!) so I want the opportunity to play a very nice memorable course.

I've only played one of the Barefoot courses (Love) but I can honestly say play World Tour. It's a really cool experience. I have read that they have/are closing one of the 9 holes there, but it still should be a must-play for anyone visiting MB.

It's $$$ and there isn't much of a deal to be had on a replay, but we had a great time out there. The facility, staff and course is all top-notch.

Watch out for amen's corner. The greens are faster than the rest of the course (for a reason).

I played World Tour just last week, and was disappointed in the course. I played Barefoot, all but the Dye, last October, and was very impressed with the Love and Fazio courses. The Norman course was really good, but a little "boring" to me.

You will receive absolutely top notch treatment at World Tour, the facilities and the staff really make you feel welcome, and it is a very unique experience for sure, but I found the course to be disappointing. It is in excellent shape, although the greens were slower than I expected them to be (of course right now the SE is in the middle of a bad drought and heat wave). The design is a VERY loose replication of the holes that they imitate. The only one that is even a little close is #12 at Augusta, but we played that one at 175 yards. I wasn't expecting to see perfect replicas of the holes they copied, but I was hoping for something a little closer than we got.

Barefoot will also treat you well, but I have never been anywhere that accomplishes this better than World Tour. The food in the clubhouse is very good, the staff friendly, the course is good, and they treat you like they are very grateful for your visit.

As far as the golf goes, I think Barefoot is better. The Love and Fazio courses are beautiful, well manicured, and tough without being unfair or gimmicky, with the exception perhaps of the old ruins on one of the Love holes.

Kings North, very nice.

As for the Barefoot courses, my whole group is mixed, a bunch prefer the Love course and a bunch prefer the Fazio course. I haven't experienced the Dye course yet.

I'm heading down with the group in October and we stay in Barefoot (friends condo = free) and decided we weren't leaving Barefoot this time except for 1 round. We're thinking Oyster Bay.

Don't get me wrong, World Tour is nice and you do get treated like kings, but for 36, Barefoot offers great golf without having to un-hook your bags from the cart.

Either way you'll be happy. I'll guarantee it.

I would definitely recommend going to the Barefoot Resort. I have played all of them and would say play Love, Norman, Fazio, and Dye before playing World Tour. Barefoot is a much better value for the money, in my opinion. World Tour is kind of gimmicky and in my experience the staff are a little full of themselves. But, if you want to play something different World Tour is definitely that. I have a rain check from there that expires this month want it? I was just down in MB the beginning of this month and didn't use the rain check, does that tell you what I thought of the course?

If you really want to play two challenging courses, head down to Pawleys Island and play Caledonia and True Blue. They are very close, you drive through True Blue to get to Caledonia, and a great Mike Strantz golf courses.

Enjoy, either way. Interested to hear what you think...

  • 3 weeks later...

MB has some pretty decent nightlife. They have two/three gentleman's club and a handful of nightclubs. Tons of bars to hit after a long day on the links, too. I am particularly found of Finn McCools, Molly Darcy's, and Overtime Cafe. Everything really depends on what you are looking for? Nonetheless, have a good time.

Also, I see that you are a Little Mill Member. I grew up playing Laurel Creek Country Club, small world eh? Never had the pleasure of playing Little Mill, but I have heard very good things about the course.

I AGREE THE STAFF IS GREAT AT WORLD TOUR BUT YOU'LL BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU GO THERE EXPECTING THE REAL THING. I FOUND MYSELF HAVING TO LOOK TO SEE WHAT HOLE THEY WERE TRYING TO REPLICATE IN THE YARDAGE BOOK. BAREFOOT IS THE WAY TO GO IF YOU HAVE A SHORT TIME IN MYRTLE AND WANT TO PLAY GREAT COURSES. TRY THE FAZIO COURSE, IT'S ARGUABLY THE BEST THERE. HAVE FUN!!!

i see youre from nj - what places do you go to locally?

in my opinion myrtle beach nightlife is whack, they close all the places at like 2:00 on sat nights and i think thurs night was open later

we hit up that spot derrieres after we left broadway on the beach - theyre open till 4am, all nude, bring your own beer and they give you an ice packed cooler at the bar to keep your drinks cool. because its the only place open late and that you can keep getting your drink on the place gets packed with both chicks and dudes.

derrieres kind of brought me back to the old days of delilahs den over in south amboy lol

I just got back from Barefoot. Played 9 holes at the Dye the day we arrived and the Love and Fazio courses.

Dye Course: Not my cup of tea and in not very good shape. In fact it had weeds growing in on the greens, so certainly not worth the $135.00. Even in good shape I am not a huge fan of inland links courses, especially one that had poor visuals from the tee boxes.

Love Course: I thought it was one of the better resort courses I had played, very good mix of short and long holes for 3's, 4's and 5's. Greens were airated (Small Holes!!) a week before our arrival and were almost back to normal.

Fazio Course: Typical Fazio Course, very gernerous off the tee with huge greens. In order to score you have to hit it close or you could get tired of 40 foot birdie putts or 6 foot par putts. The greens were not airated yet so were rolling great, we decided to play this course a 2nd time due to the fanatastic greens conditions.

Norman Course: The greens were recently airated so decided to play the Fazio Course a 2nd time.
