Decent, affordable course

Oxford, OH area

I'll be traveling through oxford, ohio on Friday and I was just looking for possible courses to play on friday afternoon. Can anyone recommend a good course that won't put me in the poor house and use all of my spending money for school? Right now, Indian Ridge looks best to me as its closest, its pretty long, and it has a coupon available. Any other recs.? Thanks, gentlemen!

Go directly to Hueston Woods State Park and play the course there. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.....and forget about everything else up that way. I lived in greater Cincy for 13 years and Hueston Woods is one of my absolute favorites in the area. I used to make sure I got up there 3 or 4 times a year as it's about a 45 minute drive from Cincy. The Miami University golf team plays there and it's a nice old-style layout (meaning it flows with the original terrain and they didn't bring in 1000 truckloads of dirt) and it's fairly long - 7000+ yards from the tips. It's pretty easy to get on and now that school is back in session, the State Park traffic should be minimal. Greens fees were pretty affordable too, $30 bucks or so with cart. If you get up there, give us a report, It's been awhile since I've played it.

Must agree with the general. I live in Oxford. Go directly to Hueston Woods. Indian Ridge is burnt out right now by a severe drought. There is no rough. On the bright side they do have some of the nicest greens around and the back nine is a very nice layout.

 

But overall Hueston Woods is a nice test from the tips. The local US Publinks qualifier has been held there the last 2 years. Greens tend to be slower but overall they have weathered the drought much better. Big trees and bring your fade off the tee. Many dogleg rights. Collection of some of the toughest par 3s in the area.

I hope you made it out early at Hueston woods. It got crazy later on. I snuck in a quick 18 late and shot 76 from the tips. Kinda needed that after my high altitude adventure last week in Tahoe. Nice to know how far the ball will actually go.
