I'm finally getting my own clubs

any suggestions?

i turned 18 on the 15, and mom said that she would get me a new set of clubs. this got me really excited.
i am 6'3" tall, weigh 225 lbs. i usually shoot in the mid 50's for nine holes. (i have hip problems, so i can only walk nine holes at a time. walking is sooo much better than a cart, so i'd rather only do 9.)
mom asked for me to start shopping around now before she gets the money. (she was in a wreck and intends on using some of the settlement money for my clubs).
she wants me to keep it in the $100-$300 range for a full set.
any suggestions?

Sorry to say but your not going to find alot of good name brand clubs for 1-300 $, I would suggest going to your local sporting goods store. For where I live its Academy Sports and Outdoors and look at the off brand clubs, they arn't bad clubs they just dont carry the big name or the hefty price tag.

If you want new clubs your best bet would be checking out dick's. Now if you want to go the name brand route you would have to go with some older clubs.

If you have a Golf Galaxy or a Second Swing folf in your area, check them out. They can probably fix you up with a good used set in your price range. Talk to the guys there and they will recommend the right set for your game and budget.

Check their websites for clearance items. Last years clubs are somtimes only cosmetically different from the new models. Check out Edwin Watts and Golfsmith too.

Only problem I see with you is your height. You might need an oversize length. If you get a regular set, they can be lenghtened if needed.

Mizunogrrl beat me to it! I second the above comments...

I'd go for quality used clubs to stay in or around the price bracket. New clubs are nice, but if you go second hand you can get some still usable kit, at a decent price, which is premium and still of good quality.

Ping Eye 2s are a great club, still used in their millions by players of all standards and are pretty freely available second hand at a reasonable cost. They are typical Ping quality (i.e. good) and last well. They are also readily alterable to your specs if you get fitted. Tommy Armour 845s are also a great choice, as are Titleist DCIs.

Putterwise, Pings or older Odysseys are good putters that can be found reasonably cheaply second-hand.

Cleveland 588s and Vokeys are again good clubs, popular, and are pretty easy to find.

mizunogrrl's driver and fairway wood suggestions are good ones too.

i had my first lesson today, and i was talking with him about what clubs i should get.

i found some clubs online that are pretty nice. a brand-new set of Ram Tommy Armours.

includes 10.5 degree 430 cc driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, hybrid 3i, 4-9 irons, PW, and putter. plus a dual strap stand bag, andhead covers for the woods and 3i.

all for $130 with no shipping.

sound like a good deal?

and thanks for being concerned for my mum. although the accident was 2 years ago and she's as good as she's going to get, it has taken her about three months so far of jumping through the legal hoops.
