swing video

started playing golf last spring.
Hey guys, I've been w/ the forum for a while now, but haven't really posted anything, hence my 2nd post.

like the description says, i've been playing golf about year and half, and my current handicap is 11.9. natural ball flight is fade, but i can certainly work the ball to some degree. only thing that's keeping me from single digit handicap is putting, and i'm trying hard to get better.

anyways, i think i'm a decent ball striker. currently play nike forged blade w/ x100, 8.5* r540xd tour B stamp w/ diamana shaft (thought i mention b/c that's what i'm using in video). i do have little bit of inconsistancy. lately my misses are hard draw (goes straight and tail to the left) or pull. usually pretty straight for drivers. my long iron misses are to the right.

my analysis is that i have problem w/ my backswing. gets great one piece take away, but goes too far back at the top so that even my head is slightly turning. almost like a reverse pivot. i also need to have little MORE bend on my knees, but my legs are short compared to my upper body and i am in athletic position. but i know there are lot better players here than i do and i would like some opinions/analysis/comments.

first one is one w/ my driver. pretty straight. solid hit.

this one is 3i. little thin, but relatively okay shot w/ little draw.

last one is pitching wedge to 110yd. pretty much straight shot.

thanks in advance!

I find it pretty impressive that you've been able to piece together a pretty respectable swing though only playing for such a short time. I'm guessing you were an athlete... some innate ability helps.

I'm no instructor, but you look to be pretty flexible -- have you thought of tightening up your backswing a little bit?

i recently underwent the same type of thing. it's not drastically shorter or anything, it's just not ridiculously long. over the summer, i not only hit more greens, but my misses were far and away much better -- still on the green that left me very makable putts.

i imagine if you spent a little time at the range working on controlling your ball flight (hi, low) your backswing might tighten up a little bit.

Practice with your foot together to prevent hip slide and that should also shorten your back swing as well.

Need to have less hip turn and better shoulder turn to achieve this, and this drill will force you to have better shoulder rotation in order to hit a good shot with balance.

Honestly, I think your older swing looked better. Looked much more in control and balanced.

And stand a little wider on your driver mang, hard as you swing and big body you have, you have to have a bigger platform.

thanks for the replies.

i do need to tighten up my backswing. i was kinda disgusted w/ my swing after i saw it, but suprisingly i've been hitting balls pretty solidly. it's just that my swing looked pretty bad so i decided to post it here. last time someone analyzed my swing, my back swing was tight. but the person (w/ good knowledge of golf swing) said i needed to work on one piece take away. which i'm doing fine now, but i'm going past parallel too much.

i do like the look of my older swing better, but i'm performing better w/ this. so i need to work from here. i also noticed that my right leg is straightened lot more than before, but i haven't lost any distance, especially not w/ my driver.

ok buddy. im a pretty experienced player who has had many a lesson, and this IS what you need to work on:

first of all, the reason your swing looks so long is because you dont set your wrists early enough in the back swing. If you look at the video when you arms are at 9-10 o clock, your wrists arent set at all. at 9 oclock idealy you club should be pointing straight up to the sky creating a 90 degree angle, then from there its a turn of the shoulders to the top. you will find that you swing will visibly look shorter, but you will have the sane amount of shoulder turn which equals same power.

ok , seconds, you must be hitting a lot of left shots with that impact position. thought so! You club head is ariving to the ball before you hands which is a definite no no. On the way down try and hold the angle of the club for as long as possible so that your hands reach the ball before the club head does. this will stop u from hitting it left and flipping it.

p.s. work on these things seperately. you dont want to be thinking of two things like this at once. let me know how it goes and if you need more help, holla!

thanks for the comment. i'll work on them during this week and perhaps come back w/ another video.

one thing though, i tried to have the club perpendicular to the ground (club pointing up) when my arm is at 9o'clock. but i tend to get early release and end up hitting fat shots. what would help to keep the angle retention (the lag) during my down swing?
