Courses in Atlanta area

staying near airport

I am traveling to Atlanta on business and am looking for course recomendations. I am staying near the airport, but am willing to drive a little. I would like to play a couple of nicer courses as I don't know when I will be getting back there. Cost really isn't a consideration. Thanks!

I've played a few rounds around that area and always seem to end up back at "summergrove" in Newnan down I-85 aways. Every time i've been there the greens have been very fast and smooth (bent grass). Plus the course is very challenging.

yeah, use lastminutegolfer.com (or lmtt.com -- both one in the same).

That usually has updates on course conditions and all. Also, most the public courses are listed on there--so a good reference point.

When will you be in town? This week/weekend/further down the line?

The frog is a nice track maybe 40 min from you Fazio course

Georgia national about 30 min south of you used to be nice, I have not played it since cannongate picked them up.

We (Canongate) picked up Summergrove too. It is a fun track and was one of my favorite public courses before we bought it. I live about two minutes from the Frog and it is also a very nice course. I played out there Nov. 5 and the greens were pretty slick. Wolf Creek is another option if you are near the airport as is Cotton Fields just south of the Airport.

The only thing I like about cotton is the 624 + yard par 5..........lol. Have you played national lately? I forgot another track that is close is Crystal Lake in Hampton

I haven't played Cotton in forever. I live out on Mirror Lake so I either play there, The Frog, or Chapel Hills.

I am going to Atlanta the week of the Masters. We are going to stay in Norcross. Is Bear's Best the way I need to go or is there something better?

Bears' can be good, it all depends on the drought conditions and if we have a wet spring. try wolf creek, the frog, stone mountain, hampton golf village, or woodmont. I do warn you that good public golf is defintly a drive in this town. Also Cherokee Run and The Oaks Golf Course are both out I-20 East on the way to Augusta. If you are a member at a club you might want to see if you can get a reciprocal deal going with a club intown as well. Its sad to say that most of the good golf in this city has been privitized. Hope this helps you along.

Wolf Creek is the closest to the airport. Nice track.
The others mentioned above are nice tracks but farther drives.
Stone Mountain has two decent tracks. Heritage is farther but you really need to be on your game there.
If you're staying near the airport, you're on the southside of Atlanta. Anything north will be a trek, especially with traffic.

Bears Best is fun. If you're in Norcross, you have a lot more options closer. Chateau Elan, Reunion, Heritage, Stone Mountain are all pretty close. lmtt.com is a good source. atlantagolfer.com can give you a list of courses but I don't think its real up-to-date.
