Players distance irons - looking for a 2nd/winter set

My normal gamers are Srixon ZTX2S with PX 6.0s in 4-PW. They’re not going anywhere and I have a backup set for when I wear my current set out.

I spend my autumn to spring mainly in the UK and it rains, then rains, then rains more heavily and then rains and little bit less! I play all through winter and last year borrowed a set of Srixon 545s. It was a revelation to not lose all enjoyment playing from the mud.

im now on the lookout for a set of similar irons but 2nd hand Srixons over here are rarer than an honest politician!

My budget is up to $300 for a used set but the players distance category is foreign soil to me. I’ve missed out on some Ping G25/30s recently but other than these I don’t know what qualifies.

Recommendations please!

PS I don’t mind at all clubs from a component manufacturer if they do the job. I did see Dynacraft prophet CB and think they may work.

Anything Mizuno would be high on my list. Ping, Wilson, Adams, or Bridgestone too if you're trying to stay cheap but updated. If you're wanting to join the Big Boy club and budget isn't a factor then Miura CB-301's, but that's just me playing devils advocate.....

Top budget is $300 used. Specific models would be good to aim for.

have a look around for a nice good condition set of ...

1/ Titleist Ap2 either 714 or 716

2/ Callaway Apex Pro either 2014 or 2016 models.

3/ Taylormade P750 (may be over the budget)

this is a few models that are a little older now so should have come down in price, however good condition sets still fetch good money but thats a good start.

i think the Ping G25/30 irons you missed out on are more in the GI than players iron category.

I second Mizuno. I'd look at the Mizuno JPX series. I bought my set of JPX 825 Forged new from a fiftter and they are still in the bag. Great  forgiveness and feel. Not a distance club per se, but solid with more reasonable lofts. Less distance penalty when not hit so well, rewards good strikes with feel.  I would think used sets would be available at UK shops since they do volume there. There are some cast versions too that were more distance oriented, didn't hit those. They are seven years old now, so should be good value. I plan on holding on to mine as a backup set

Amazingly after saying used Srixon irons don’t come up over here, I got stupidly lucky on a blended set of 565s and 765s with ns pro 130s and wow! 5/6 are 565s and 7-pw are 765s.

Looking down at address you’d struggle to see a difference and they feel like a great compromise. The 765s are up there with the ZTX2S in feel and maybe half a club longer throughout. The 565s are stupidly easy to get out there.
