SKYTRAK & FIBERBUILT Hitting Strip Users

Hello Skytrak Owners,

 

• I recently purchased a used Skytrak.
• Planning to purchase a 3 foot Fiberbuilt strip for use as a hitting strip.

 

In my research, a few complaints surfaced about the reflectiveness of the Fiberbuilt fibers. Not sure if these were old/outdated but does anyone have experience with misreads from this particular issue?

 

Also, what balls are you using with this setup? Colors, White, TP5pix, etc...

i use TP5pix balls and they work great. only misreads i get are with white shoes and putting. 

 

i am also interested to hear about the hitting strips. my mat is starting to get a worn spot. going to cut out a section and replace it with a strip. just not sure which one yet.

Haven’t heard of the white shoes issue - good to know! 
 

Ended up ordering the fiberbuilt strip. I’ll provide some feedback once it’s set up!

You should enjoy the FB strip. I've used one for 3 years now and it is still going strong. White shoes, reflective running shoes or laces, or anything reflective behind your stance (in the field of vision of the cameras) can cause issues.

Did you happen to put anything underneath your FB strip? Subfloor, foam, etc.

The area of the concrete where it will go is a bit uneven. Thinking of using composite shims to get it level but not sure if that’s the best approach.

For my first build I used 1x4 planks and plywood to make a base that was perfectly level. After moving and setting up again I decided to just place the FB strip on a thin foam gym mat and then my stance mat on thicker mats so the height is identical. The new garage floor doesn't slope enough for me to worry about now (less than half a bubble on a 4ft level).

I do like the general ease the tp5pix with the Skytrack. Play a round or two and throw them in the golf bag. 

 

I will just blame it on my strip now when I get a miss read. It's weird sometimes they happen more than others. It only misses my best shots and then I need to try to repeat those. 

 

I also wipe the balls off as they can pick up oils from our hands.

Former FB user. Had the oval practice station from Costco, then the Hourglass Studio Pro with the nylon 1x3 strip.

 

More misreads than I cared for. The laser scatters a bit (vs simple dot) and with my B&W 120fps cameras, I could pick up distinct reflection of the infrared flash from the SkyTrak off the bristles.

 

I ended up making my own DIY mat simulating the Divot Action. Cut out a 1x2’ section of a decent CCE mat I picked up from local course driving range when they were swapping out mats. Haven’t had a misread on it ever. I do wear black spikeless golf shoes and have a black curtain behind me.

 

I use white PV1X balls; same as I play. Draw a black line on the ball and line it up vertical facing the ST. Clean them good every couple weeks with some diluted Goof Off to remove the net residue and then a little soap and water. Just enough to clean and not kill the clear coat. Spin and launch are really good to what I expect from the outside.

I did! Still working on some modifications to the garage so the setup is not yet complete.

Oh nice! Are you happy with that choice? I’m so close to pulling the trigger on it.

I went with the rukket sports 5x5 hitting mat. It does not accept tees into the turf but comes with a bunch of tee locations around the all four sides of the mat. Not as nice as the aforementioned hitting mats but has help up exceptionally well for my private uses. Would highly recommend. Roughly $300 and great for getting started.
