choosing and buying a LD shaft to get started

I'm wanting to get more into LD training and want to get a shaft I can start training with. Budget is $300 for bare shaft. Already have head and grip. I can prep/install adapter and grip myself, but if I can source it somewhere that will do it for a reasonable price, that's a plus. Definitely want 48". Current club speed is ~110mph but my goal is 120-130 by end of year, so if I have to get something I "grow into", it's okay if its not perfect for me right now.

 

What kind of shafts should I be looking at, and where should I look to buy them?

If you want something bang-on 48" inches you may need to buy a long drive shaft. There's a few companies that might grab your interest -- House of Forged (eBay shop only...), Paderson, Penley, Fujikura (Flywire and Kaos shafts), XPHLEXXX.

If it doesn't have to be exactly 48", an off-the-shelf 46" shaft uncut will get you pretty close with the adapter I imagine. Bonus is that you can pick a shaft you're already familiar with.

I'm happy to get a LD-specific shaft. my gamer shaft already plays at 46".

just wanted to follow up and say thanks again for your input. I got a used HoF shaft on eBay at the length I wanted with the right adapter for a stupid good price, and I'm loving it. had no idea they sold on eBay like that. thanks so much!

Great to hear it! Which model did you get?
I have a XXX HD Prototype and it's a great shaft, so much so that I bought a secondhand XX version locally. They don't have great web presence but they make up for it with quality product it seems.

I got the EXP LD-260 in X to start with. It was cheap enough that as my speed builds I can go to stiffer ones and try different models. It's already lightyears better than the regular Tensei I was using before.

I have a new HOF 48" Maximus LD shaft made by LA Golf with a Callaway tip that I got as a back up, but I get better results with another HOF shaft. Still new in the tube from HOF, if interested let me know?
