Vijay's swing trigger?

Can someone explain or help me replicate Vijay Singh's swing trigger? It seems to be two moves happening at the same time. He kicks in his knee. But, he is doing more than just that. It appears he gets a nice rebound from this setting up a great backswing. Any ideas what this move is?

Vijay has many classic positions in his swing. one of these classic positions is what you are describing, known as the reverse K setup. Gary player is known for his reverse K, which includes both setting the hands ahead of the clubhead, as well as kicking the right knee forward. if you look at the whole body in this position, it will looks like backwards K, just like the classic finish looks like a backward C, hence the "reverse C finish".

 

essentially what they are doing is replicating the impact position before going into the backswing. it can be helpful, because all you have to think is that you need to return to your address position at impact.

I saw VJ up close at the WGC in Tucson a few weeks ago. He kicks his right knee in much less than he used to. With his swing changes he seems to have incorporated into his trigger a vibration of his hands too, then a small knee kick. I don't think this has much to do with his reverse K or anything like that. The swing trigger just relaxes the muscles and gives his body a sense of rhythm before it's actually put into the swinging motion. I find myself swing much better when I give a slight right knee kick to start my swing.

Ypu've got it - it's not only a knee kick in - something is going on with his hands. You call it

a vibration - I wonder what that is? It would be hard to duplicate a vibration of the hands w/o more info. I just love the way he starts the swing - once he does - the rest flows. It's also amazing on how off balance he is after all the swing yet he still has an awesome swing.
