Callaway Steelhead Drivers

Need some advice
Hey guys, I'm very new to golf and in the market for a good driver thats in the $50 price range. I know that that is a very low price range but I stumbled upon the Callaway Steelhead for about that price and am interested in purchasing it and I had a few questions about the club. I know its best to try it out for myself but if I were to do that I'd have to pay much more than $50 for a new driver. Also, I can't hit drivers well anyways, so I'm looking for a good one to practice with more than anything.

So, I was wondering, does anybody have any thoughts about this driver?

What is the main difference between the Steelhead Plus and the Steelhead III?

Are there other drivers in that price range that you think are better?

Thanks for the help guys!

The Steelhead and Steelhead Plus drivers are solid...but they are on the small side and not very forgiving. I had one for the longest time but I found the newer bigger drivers to be much more forgiving.

The Steelhead III driver is about the same size head but lower profile...it may actually be a bit easier and more forgiving then the steelhead driver.

Still if I were you I would get something a little bigger and more forgiving. A great example of this is the Talyor Made 300 series drivers....you can find a 320 or 360 on Ebay for real cheap now and they are still great drivers. Very easy to hit and very forgiving.

Good luck,

Stevie.

Great advice guys, I did some more research and the head of the steelhead is only about 210cc's which is quite small. And illinikyle, did you recommend a higher degree loft because that would be a more forgiving club for me?

Also, I did look into the Taylor Made 360, it does have good reviews and is pretty cheap. Thanks for the suggestion. Other suggestions are also welcome :dntknw:

That looks like a solid club. Does anybody know how forgiving this club is or if its recommended for beginners?

The club is 360cc which is by no means small, or large. Callaway for the most part, is geared toward the average golfer. You should have not problem with a Callaway club. If you are just starting the game, the 10* is the minimum loft you should have. A higher loft would be even better.

Thanks for all your help so far, but one last question, would you recommend the Callaway BB Ti or the Cleveland Launcher 400? Both of them are in the same price range and have good reviews, however, like you stated, the Callaway is probably a more forgiving club.

If you've got it down to those 2 drivers, then I would say it's about time to head to a place where you can try both of them out side by side (Golf Galaxy, and Golf Smith are two examples). Cleveland and Callaway are both good manufacturers, so you really can't go wrong with either. You don't have to buy one at that store, but you should at least try them out. I just picked up a Launcher 400, and I must say it was a good driver for the price. Although if you look at the clubs I carry, most are Cleveland (so I might be biased). If I had ordered online without hitting it first, I probably wouldn't have selected an 8.5* with a Stiff NV shaft in it. So, getting fitted, or at least trying out different loft and shaft combinations is helpful.

I was hoping to do that but unfortunately none of the golf stores in my area have either of them in stock. But that definately would have been the best option at this point

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
