Installing Double Bend Shaft into single bend/90* Bore head

Hi everyone.

I am currently gaming a Sub 70 004, which I love the look and feel of, however I am loosing confidence daily with the toe hang of the single bend setup.

I know that the putter is bore at 90* - Would I be able to install a Double Bend shaft to help make the putter a more face balanced?

Is this possible? Is it a bad idea? Any cons that I need to be aware of?

I tried searching for this, but couldn't find the answer I was looking for, so any insight here would be helpful. Thanks!

Why didn't you buy the version with the double bend shaft? Or send it back to them to modify?

While it is still listed on their website, my understanding is that they have not had the double bend version of the 004 available for quite some time now going back quite a few months.

The fact that they used to offer it, means that it is entirely doable. Just need to accept that there will be offset (shaft will be in front of the face) with a DB.

Be aware that getting a double bend shaft aligned properly when installing can be a little tricky, I had to reinstall one on my putter and took me 3 tries before it came out right. They do make an alignment tool to assist but probably not worth the cost for most of us.

Not to thread jack, but I saw something last week from a putter fitter that said a double-bend shaft only fits something like 5% of all players he has fit. I thought that was interesting considering how many are on the market.

It is easy if you know the offset of the shaft. If it is 1/4" then you need a small piece of 1/4" thick wood. You lay the wood down on a flat surface and then put the putter face on that (face down). The shaft then lies flat on the rest of the table top. It will be properly aligned every time. 1/8" offset, you need a 1/8" thick piece of wood or similar. Obviously, you epoxy the shaft in first then lay it down.
