Swing problem...

What's your take?

I have noticed that my pelvic pivot moves forward towards the ball on the down swing instead of around my body. Also noticed that my spine angle is more upright at impact, I kinda of pop up a bit. This is from looking at my swing down the line.

I want to find an answer to these 2 problems and the best way to correct it.

Nevermind the fact that he calls it the "Hogan Power Drill" -- it looks like sound advice, and appears to be what many good players do. I, too, need to pull my left hip BACK (and not slide it forward) on the forward swing.

You know, I've always wondered how in the world Tiger made his left hip move out of the way first before hitting down on the ball. I've tried many ways to do it but I just kept sliding towards the target in order to imitate that hip movement. Saved myself at least $60...

It's one thing to watch/hear what seems like good advice, only to find that it doesn't appear that anyone really heeds the advice. But I watched a show on the Golf Channel yesterday where Tiger was giving a demonstration to a group of people from his learning center down in Orlando, and I made a point of stopping, rewinding, and then replaying in slow-mo his swing (with special attention to his hip movement). Man, he made this exact move. He turns back (not as pronounced as in these videos), then pulls his hip out of the way while getting over his left leg -- just like Shawn demonstrates in the video(s).

 

I KNOW that I'm not doing this right now, and it's hurting me. In an effort to turn my hips, I'm pretty sure that I've been throwing my right hip forward which gives the IMPRESSION that my left hip is turning back -- but it's not. I really need to work on getting my left hip out of the way.

would this hogan move of starting the downswing with the hips work for both a flatter one plane swing and for a more upright two plane swing?

 

 

im still experimenting with different ways and cant make up my mind which is best.

 

one of them is to just drop my arms on downswing.

second one is to shift my weight from right to left.

last one is to turn my left hips to initiate the downswing.

 

 

 

on the video, he seems to bring his right elbow right in front of his belly like how hogan does it which is usually a one plane swing right?

All I can say is WOW....I tried the drill and guess what....it fixed my pop up and pivot thrust. I HIGHLY recommend this drill to all golfers. I recorded myself and WALLA my swing is starting to look like the ones I see on PGATOUR.COM :black eye:

 

One other thing I noticed that this drill did for me was my ascent into the ball. It got rid of the FLIP too and it seems to keep my wrist hinge longer on the down swing for a more powerful impact. It fixed quite a few swing flaws just by rotating the hips properly. Wish I knew this 8 years ago when I started :birthday:

 

Can't wait to go to the range on Saturday.
