Odyssey Stroke Lab Putter Grip Change

I have an Odyssey stroke lab 7.0s putter and I am considering swapping the grip.  Have any of you done this?  If so were you careful to match the weight of the grip to the factory grip as to not mess up the balance?  What did you choose?  I am think about a Stroke Lab 1.0.  I feel this would be close enough not to change feel much.  I just like the feel of those in my hands a little more than the factory grip.

Nothing to worry about with swapping grips. Odyssey (like most OEM’s) doesn’t adjust swing-weight by putter length, so if you play <35” (swing weight decreases as length is reduced) putter length then you may find that you actually prefer a slightly heavier swing weight via installing a lighter grip or heavier head weights

 

Tldr: put on whatever grip you want

I've been thinking about this same thing, and ultimately decided to just find a grip I feel comfortable with. Highly unlikely the minimal weight change will be the reason I miss putts.

Many people have this misconception that the stock putter setup or swing-weight is the optimal setup when it’s really not; it’s all personal preference. Scotty Cameron is one of few OEM’s that tries to target a specific swing weight for each length (SC’s head weight increases as length decreases), but even that dynamic weighting strategy has flaws because some people (again, personal preference) will find that the head-weight is too heavy at 34” or 33”. Odyssey doesn’t do this, instead they sell weight-kits so you can figure out your preferred head weight yourself

 

You’re not gonna “ruin” the putter by making grip or head-weight changes. Just look on tour, tons of guys use the same putter model but then they all have their own preferred grip, head-weight, etc.

I got caught up in the whole "Stroke Lab" thing with it..for about 10 mins.

 

The fact manufacturers sell weight kits to change the weight basically discredits their claim of a head/grip ideal ratio.

Totally. Odyssey customer service reps will say “You should keep the new grip within __ grams of the original grip weight” in response to OP’s question. No clue why they say that, besides them simply not knowing what they’re talking about. I’ve reached out to them before about putter specs and the reps clearly didn’t know what they’re talking about

You can also add butt weights to adjust the "swing weight" feeling when you regrip. There's really no right-or-wrong for especially putters
