THE TP version

from anothe website:

Fujikura RE-AX Shafts with full Rombax Technology will be available on the TP model. Full Rombax from tip to butt. I will say that both Fujikura and TaylorMade are EXTREMELY excited about these shafts. Think second generation Speeder. You remember how popular the Speeder series was when it was released, these are supposed to be 2nd generation.

TP-55 = Similar to Fuji SIX

TP-65 = Similar to YS-6 bend profile and performance

TP-75 = Similar to 757

From TM:

TaylorMade RE•AX Shaft with Fujikura Rombax Technology

The r7 425 TP is equipped with the new TaylorMade RE•AX TP graphite shaft

featuring Fujikura's proprietary ROMBAX technology, which has taken Fujikura's

TRIAX technology to the next level.

A golf shaft exhibits a tendency to change from a circular shape to an oval

shape as it bends and twists while subjected to the normal forces of the

forwardswing. That's why Fujikura, maker of the No. 1 shaft on the PGA Tour*,

devised ROMBAX technology, which helps the shaft to better retain and

recover its original, circular shape. That helps to make the shaft dynamics

more consistent and more stable, which promotes improved consistency

and accuracy from shot to shot.

ROMBAX technology uses two types of graphite weave, TRIAX (used in Fujikura's

legendary Speeder 757 shaft) and a second weave recently developed to

reinforce TRIAX. These weaves, which are used to make graphite sheets, are

characterized by an intricate, strength enhancing pattern. The TRIAX sheet

extends from the grip to the tip, while the second sheet covers the middle

of the shaft, covering approximately 25% of the length. Together these graphite

sheets unite to reinforce the shaft's cross-sectional integrity, allowing it to

better maintain and recover its circular shape during the swing. The complex

pattern in which the outer graphite sheet is woven is visible through a "window"

just below the grip. In the 425 TP, ROMBAX technology extends from the top of

the shaft to the bottom, which not only reinforces cross-sectional integrity

to promote increased consistency, but also bolsters tip-stiffness to promote

increased control for players capable of generating fast swing speeds

and tour-style launch conditions.

What is RE*AX technology?

Exceptionally large headed drivers stress the shaft in new and different ways, demanding new solutions. For the first time in the history of Golf, TaylorMade Golf and Fujikura Composites identified how a graphite shaft contorts from a circular shape to an oval when subjected to the normal forces of the forward swing. “Ovaling” causes damaging inconsistencies that lead to inconsistencies at impact. Fujikura and TaylorMade have answered those inconsistencies by developing two new shaft technologies that combat ovaling to enhance consistency and performance. The RE*AX technology diminish and control ovaling.

RE*AX 65 is a specially woven sheet of high-grade graphite strands and strategically wrapped it around the middle of the shaft, from just below the grip to just above the tip. Critical is the computer generated pattern that weaves the graphite tightly together and which helps give this technology its remarkable, shape-sustaining strength. An added benefit to fortifying the middle of the shaft is that it allows the tip to remain flexible, allowing it to kick faster through the hitting zone to promote increased ball speed, higher ball flight and added distance.

The specs for the RE*AX shafts (Standard in the stock retail R7 425) are as follows:

RE*AX 65 Flex Torque Tip Size Butt Diam. Weight

X 3.1 .350” .0600” 65 grams

S 3.1 .350” .0600” 65 grams

R 3.3 .350” .0600” 65 grams

M 3.3 .350” .0600” 65 grams

TP RE*AX with Fujikura ROMBAX technology:

Fujikura took its tour proven Triax technology, which employs a single sheet of graphite, and layered it with a sheet of the new weave used in the RE*AX to create a new technology called ROMBAX. While Triax runs from the grip to the tip, the second, inner sheet envelops the middle of the shaft, resulting in a firm, yet pliant structure that diminishes ovaling and stabilizes the shaft at tour level swing speeds. ROMBAX also contributes to a more stable tip section, which is almost universally preferred by tour-caliber players to promote a lower and more controllable ball flight.

The specs for the TP RE*AX (standard in the r7 425 TOUR PREFERRED TP version) with ROMBAX technology are:

for regular r7 425 shaft:

From TM:

TaylorMade RE•AX Shaft with Fujikura Performance Technology

The r7 425 comes equipped with the new TaylorMade RE•AX shaft

that features a new technology developed by Fujikura, maker of the No.

1 shaft on the PGA Tour.

A golf shaft exhibits a tendency to change from a circular shape

to an oval shape as it bends and twists while subjected to the normal

forces of the forwardswing. Fujikura's new technology helps to make the shaft dynamics more

consistent and more stable, which promotes improved consistency and

accuracy from shot to shot. This new technology is characterized

by one sheet of graphite woven into an intricate, strength-enhancing

pattern. This graphite sheet reinforces the shaft's cross-sectional

integrity, allowing the shaft to better maintain and

recover its circular shape during the swing. The complex pattern in

which the graphite sheet is woven is visible through a "window" just

below the grip. This graphite sheet is positioned in

the mid-section, from just below the grip to midway down the length of

the shaft, covering 25% of the shaft's length. This strengthens the

medium-diameter cross-section just above the soft small-diameter tip

section, which stabilizes the middle of the shaft so that its

cross-sections remain circular. That also allows the tip section to flex

more powerfully and consistently to promote a higher launch angle,

faster ball speed, greater distance, enhanced accuracy and improved feel.

More Movable Weight Combined with a Larger Sized Clubhead

"TaylorMade's Movable Weight Technology has clearly proven itself as

a valid and valuable technology, as evidenced by the r7 quad's current

status as the No. 1 driver on the PGA Tour, as well as its tremendous

success at retail," said Tom Olsavsky, director of product creation

for TaylorMade. "Now, golfers seeking a driver with a larger-sized

head can opt for the new r7 425, the increased size of which

allows for more movable weight, which helps to promote even greater

changes in launch conditions and trajectory."

Forgive me but I'm Fuji illiterate. Had a Vista Tour Series in a Ping ISI Tec way back when and hated it. I'm very curious about the Rombax. Can someone tell me more about it, How available they are, the diff between the TM REAX version, and just anything you may know about it?

Here's a review I did on a Joe Kwok installed Rombax, not the TP version:

Since that review I've played a couple more rounds and still think it's a great shaft.

So is the REAX version considered to be better than the non Taylor Made versions of the Rombax?

Japan issue ROMBAX will always be better... why do you think they use the word "Rombax technology" who knows if the entire shaft has the same weave as the true ROMBAX. Not saying it bad..but pretty much can say for certain it's NOT better.
