Help with Strokelab cutting/swingweight

Bought this 35". Cutting to 33.5".

 

Plug was 30g and original grip 77g

 

New grip 55g. 

 

I want lighter butt going down in length right? What to do now. I can do plug, no plug, sub some lead tape for plug? 

 

If anything I'd want heavier head feel over lighter.

If you blow on a grip with an air compressor without double stick tape, you can experiment to see what feels best.

Ok I might just do that. I'm trying to recreate a putter I tried and it was this one in a 33 with this new grip. (but it was most likely a custom putter, not off the rack).

 

I've been trying to figure out swingweight wise but not sure if that's different with putters.

 

Also is gripweight and plug weight are apples to apples or if grip weight in spread out vs concentrated in plug makes a difference.

The easiest option would be buying a weight-kit through Callaway/Odyssey and increasing the head weights. But yes, removing the 30g butt and installing a lighter one is also good option. GolfWorks sells various plug weights. I suppose lead tape around the top/butt of the shaft would probably work too.

 

Ditching the plug or lead tape altogether is also a option, but if you were doing that i’d probably recommend a heavier grip (80-90grams), and not to increase the head-weight.

The 30g plug has a strong influence on SW because it’s in a small, concentrated area at the very end of the shaft; a grip covers more surface area and extends down the shaft, thus it won’t reduce swing weight quite as significantly as a weight plug. So, a 55gram grip + 30g plug (85g total) is going to have a lighter swing-weight than if you used a 85gram grip and no plug

 

Personally, i’d probably install a 10-15g counterweight and your 55g grip. This way you get the heavier-head feeling you want without having to buy a weight kit. And your putter won’t feel like a sledge-hammer if you do that.

I ended up making a custom weight from a bolt wrapped with some lead tape. I cut to 33.5".

Felt a bit light but then used my old putter for few strokes and it's definitely heavier feel than that. We'll see how it goes.

I cut my Stroke Lab Ten down to 31-1/4"   The swing weight without any counterweighting measured out at C6 which worked out well for me.
