Callaway ERC Soft vs TM TP5

Hmmm...

 

I play the ERC Soft as my "cheaper ball" and the TP5 as my premium option.  I really like both balls, but lately I've noticed that the ERC Soft performs much better for me - launch, dispersion and distance - and holds the greens surprisingly well.  (No clue on more specifics than that.)

 

Is this just an anomaly based on a few rounds or is it possible that the mid-tier option is a better ball for me?

I have really enjoyed playing the ERC Soft, the original as well as 2nd version, but have yet to try the latest iteration. If you are playing the latest version, Callaway modified the ball to include an urethane "coating" which might explain the performance you are seeing. My only issue with the ERC Soft has always been the price.

@JetPilotIn the same exact boat. Love playing the ERC Soft and it really performs the best all around for me, especially factoring in the triple track. Only thing I'm weary of is potentially not being able to hold greens once it gets hot here.

Agree...last summer I had to switch because it just didn't check up the way I needed it to.  But I've been pretty happy with how this ball launches off full swings.

@JetPilot One you might try is Wilson Triad, played it for the first time tonight and loved it. Similar high straight flight as ERC, great distance and felt great off all clubs. Really impressed and the urethane cover should give it the edge in stopping power.

I'm trying to figure out why the ERC Soft is working out so well for me.  I've been testing it against the Chrome Soft and TP5 and it's just a flat out better ball for me.  Mostly off the driver.  I've been swinging well and it's clearly longer and straighter than both other options (like 15-20 years on my best swings with all balls).  With my irons, I don't notice any difference - they all are excellent.  

 

Would this possibly be due to compression or spin characteristics that just work with my driver?

 

I've never noticed such a difference between balls before.  Maybe I've never paid attention?

I couldn’t agree more. Played the TP5 for the last 4 years (miss the 2019 version) but a Callaway club pro staffer clued me into the ERC soft and find it much better.    Longer off the tee and flies a touch higher.  I thought the triple track was a gimmick and was hoping they would all some ERC soft without it but once I used  it can’t imagine putting without.  Try this ball if you haven’t

I'm here joining the Callway ERC club.... I found one playing in my local club and inmediately put it into play... I started hitting longer with all my clubs... It feels like the ball gets more 'air time', not necessarily higher but definitely longer! No issues on approach shots to the green because I already spin it a lot with wedges and short clubs, but It doesn't roll back as with others (not an inssue for me).

 

I bought a dozen and now is my preferred golf ball !!!

ERC is a great ball for the tier they are in. That and tour response are the leaders of the group imo

  ERC is the straightest ball I’ve ever hit and I’ve hit them all.  I just wish they made the soccer ball tru vis instead of the triple track.  Perfect ball for mid SS guys.  Not for gorillas.
