2 man tourney questions

My home course has decided to have a 36 hole, 2 man tourney. Day 1 scramble, day 2 modified alt shot. 
 

The goal is pre-flight teams by handicap. This will be our first time doing this. We have a few questions for anybody who has ever handicapped an event like this. If you can spare a

minute, I would appreciate it.

1. Team handicap-take each players index add together then divide by 2. And then a percent of that number?

Committee is looking at 50% of that number? Is that reasonable?

 

2. How you you handicap teams with huge handicap spread? For example we have 1 team with a guy who played D1 golf and Monday qualified for a couple Latino America events. His partner is 15+ handicap.

 

3. Do you move teams if they far out play their handicap?

Wisconsin State Golf Association does a two-man scramble series and they do 50% of team combined handicap but it is 35% of player A and 15% of player B

Oh and for alt shot we always just do 50% combined, we'll do 80% of that sometimes too.

Some tournaments will cap the difference between the 2 handicaps preventing a super low guy from bringing in a high handicapper.  Good luck at the tournament.  Sounds like a fun one.

At my club....

 

For any type of 2 man scramble event we do 20% of the total team handicap - i.e. Player A (1.8 cap) + Player B (5.7 cap) X 20% (.20) = 1.5 (rounded up to 2) team handicap.

 

For any type of 2 man alternate shot event we do 50% of the total team handicap - i.e. Player A (1.8 cap) + Player B (5.7 cap) X 50% (.50) = 3.75 (rounded up to 4) team handicap.

 

Also, FWIW all of our events have a 10 stroke max differential in handicaps. So if you have a 1 playing with an 18, then the 18 drops down to an 11 and the team total is 12.
