Callaway Irons: Anyone try both the regular Rogue ST Max vs the Rogue ST Max OS version?

I'm thinking of upgrading from my old Callaway X2 Hot irons to either the Rogue ST Max or Rogue ST Max OS to take advantage of Callaway's 50% trade bonus promo they have at the moment.  Not going Paradym because of price and I'd rather use the extra cash for a few lessons.

 

Last year I did test out the regular ST Max 6i at a local bay and it was pretty good and a little longer than my X2 Hot.  I have a 28 handicap (mainly because my short game sucks...upcoming lessons hopefully will improve that) and just want to have the best chance at good accurate shots (distance always good too).  

 

Has anyone tried out both the regular vs OS versions?  If so, what led to your decision of one vs the other?  Thanks!

I've been playing the older Rogue X irons for some time.  Went to them, simply to get into graphite shafts at 77 years old.  Took a while to adjust to the distances.  Each iron is at least 2 clubs longer than my old clubs.  That's because of the radically strong lofts.  Once you know the 8 iron is really a 6 iron, things begin to work out.  

Where I've had the most difficulty is in the short iron/wedges.  The AW is 46 degrees and the PW 41.  Sheesh!  So, I tossed in a 50 degree wedge to match my already owned 56 degree Vokey.  It's working.

 

I find it difficult to have a real complaint.  Coming from a long history of Pings... Eye 2, Eye 2+, Zing 2, up until G30's... I was used to the ball stopping on the greens.  Our course has exceptionally quick greens.  When I first put the Rogue X's in the bag, I could not keep a ball on a green.  Some of it was simply hitting the ball too far.  But, the groove design does not lend itself to an amateur like me getting any stopping... even with ProV's and similar balls.  We play 7 days/week.  I've finally got myself trained to give room for some runout instead of trying to drop one next to a pin.  

 

Don't know if this helps at all.  Just know I've made the needed adjustments... mentally... and am not looking to change irons again for some time.

I don't think I've played them both, but I do currently play the Rogue ST Max OS, and I love LOVE them. Easy to hit high and straight. You might even consider the OS Lite if your swing speed is really slow.

Thanks for the feedback on the OS.  Last week, I actually did pull the trigger and ordered the OS version from Callaway (should be arriving Monday or Tuesday...faster than expected!).  On a sim, my 6i swing speed with my other irons is typically 85-87.  I was told that I am on the edge for swing speed between stiff and regular so I opted for regular.  As you noted, I too just want to hit 'em high and straight.  If I lose a couple yards vs the stronger lofted regular ST Max, who cares?

I guess I’ve been fortunate as,I have aged the lofts and technology have kept me playing well. I did get the rogue max. I hit a pro V and don’t have any trouble stopping mid or short irons coming into the green. For those who say my pitching wedge is really like an old 8 iron I didn’t have trouble stopping it either when my swing speed was higher. I do have 3 ping glide wedges.

For anyone north of 16 handicap max os (w graphite if senior) is a great choice.  Reg Roque will go further for sure but max os will be more forgiving, accurate and gets in air easier.  Did fitting w both plus ping 430s, Mizuno, TM Stealth, srixon...all great options but for me data was compelling. Less shot dispersion from center line.  Went from 18 hcp to 14 in 6 months
