Help me find a new putter grip

Honman

Recommended Posts

Searching for a new putter, and one of the things I've realised I don't like on anything i pick up is the grip. I used a Winn AVS, in particular the Rife version for years. It had a lot of texture and was soft. I've managed to find a couple of these on ebay, but would really like to find something newer and easier to get hold off. Ideally with plenty of colour options but that is not important.

I presume its considered a pistol shape?

I would say the Iomic and Winn stuff feel nothing alike. Having tried both, the Iomic is pretty firm and smooth and gets firmer as it ages (even though Iomic will tell you they don't age due to their material), whereas the Winn is very soft with texture to it. Winn makes plenty of grips still that should fit what you are looking for.

Rife offered a few different grips on their putters over the years, so it is hard to say which Winn would be closest without seeing it, but you should be able to match it up pretty close with something in their current lineup.

Iomic standard (slight step down in size from their midsize) is still considerably larger than a standard PP58 just for reference. They’ve got classic (smallest), standard, and midsize. Golfworks might have the exact specs (of the butt-end of the grip) if u want to check there, i just ordered an Iomic Sticky Standard putter grip and it was listed at 13/15” x 1 1/8”

Also: there’s a lot of fake Iomic’s out there, so i’d order straight from the OEM to be safe

I was thinking the same thing, but when I looked up the Rife version of the AVS it seemed to be a completely different material than the normal Winn material. I think it’s Elastomer just like Iomic if this was what OP was referring to: IMG_1365.jpeg.d9f9a00e5ded048764dc68e886340b1f.jpeg

That is likely closer to the current golf pride pro series in feel. Sadly I have played those as well as the Iomic stuff and the Winn stuff... I have owned way too much stuff clearly. Iomic has a very unique feel though. I personally have not found anything else that feels like their grips. I am not a fan honestly, but they are definitely unique. I would check out the golf pride pro series lineup which are easy to find in stores. They make 3 shapes. I think one would be close to what you are looking for.

Yeah Iomic’s are a bit different, they feel kinda slick compared to normal rubber - but they are still grippier than some of other super popular grips out their IMO (e.g. superstroke). I like the size and slight-v shape of the Iomic standard, which is why I just ordered the Iomic Sticky Standard in hopes that it’ll be slightly less slick

Have you tried the Golf Pride Dual Durometer?  They don't make them anymore, but you can find them on eBay.

I've tried them all- here's my rankings:

1) Cameron Pistolero (my gamer)  / Iomic Iclassic mid is fairly close

2) Lamkin deep etched cord (85g....i think this is the best non cameron grip)

3) Iomic standard 65g

The weight should play a part too...I like 80g grips with 350g-360g heads at 34". Lighter grip = heavier head feel...so the 65g iomic and a 350g head TO ME does not feel balanced enough, feels heavy but I'm sensitive to that.

This is the grip. The standard was blue but these are exactly the same.

Tried a Superstroke GT tour today which felt good and was far smaller than any of their grips I'd tried previously.

So I found a couple of the old Rife Winn grips on ebay. But I also ordered a Superstroke Pistol Tour and it seems just about perfect. Now to decide which putter I want it on!
