GCQuad Tech Specifics

Recommended Posts

I've looked around the Internet, but haven't found anything, and I'm curious if anyone else knows. Just a few general questions about the tech in the GCQuad.

https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/skytrak/360729-reveal-the-secrets-of-skytrak-in-the-dark and https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/skytrak/33189-skytrak-technical-faq get into some of the details of the original SkyTrak, for example. I haven't seen anything like this for the Quad.

1. What triggers the GCQuad to "record" a shot? Does it pull the images from its buffer after constantly recording when it sees the ball move after being hit with something? The SkyTrak has an infrared trigger beam as you can read above.

2. What is the resolution of the cameras? Are all four the same?

3. Are they black and white (greyscale, monochrome)?

4. I think I read that two of the four cameras track the ball, two track the clubhead. Does anyone know if that's true? Or do they all just take a picture of "the field" and process that way?

5. What's their frame rate, individually? I've read 10,000 FPS, but I think that may be for the "system," and so if that's true each camera would be around 2500 fps. Or are they 10,000 each?

6. How many pictures do they take (individually or as a group) on a typical shot? Is it always the same, or do they take images as long as the ball is in the field of view?

7. At higher speeds, are you better off with the ball back in the hitting area? What about at lower speeds (like a putt)?

That's all I can think of for now, but I'm curious if anyone knows these answers, and/or has other technical questions about it.

Call Foresight to get the tech specs on frame rate.

2 cameras take a picture of impact on the face at point of touch.

2 cameras take a picture of the ball in flight for 14” I think.

algorithm takes that info to provide all the data.

a stuck ball triggers the cameras.

Thanks. I'm looking for more specifics — just because I'm curious — than that.

Another question… (this one I could submit to support, sure, the other ones above I don't think they'll answer):

8. If the Quad is above or below the ball/ground, are the AoA and other readings still accurate? What's the limit here - if the Quad is on the floor and the ball is on a mat that's 1.5" thick, is the info still as accurate? What about below it?

The ball and Quad have to be at the same level, just like most radar based systems, to give proper readings.

Also the Quad needs to be “aligned” to the target line to get accurate data.

I work with Quad and Trackman every day. Both of them have pluses and minuses depending on what you’re trying to do with them.

I've hit shots with the Quad about an inch above or below the height of the mat, so they don't need to be at the same level. I'm asking how close works to get the same readings, and/or how quickly the data degrades once you get to different heights. Plus the other questions that are still unanswered from the first post.

I'm not asking if the Quad needs to be "aligned" — I'm asking about frame rates, the resolution, what triggers the capture (or if it's constantly imaging into a buffer or something), and other technically oriented questions. I'm not asking if it needs to be aligned, or if I need to turn it on, or other basic things. 😀

I appreciate that you're the only one who has answered, and maybe this info isn't out there. I'm just looking for answers to some of the more technical specifications or functionality.

Have a look at any patent filings from Foresight. There might be some details in those.

I don't know that I believe that. Earlier I hit eight shots with it about an inch below, eight shots an inch above, and eight with it level. All averaged the same thing within a few tenths.

I'm still hoping for some actual technical info.
