Streamsong December Trip Report

Got to do my first visit to Streamsong the week before Christmas and it lived up to the hype. Quick recap if it helps anyone for the future as previous posts did for me.

 

Had bad weather going through the day before and was nervous it would cause some issues. Thankfully all rain was out of the way by the time I got there on Sunday afternoon, but the wind remained! Steady 20 mph wind for all three of my rounds Sunday and Monday. The courses were still very playable in the wind, although I think Blue/Black are more enjoyable in those conditions than Red is. My rankings would go 

 

1. Blue

2. Black

3. Red

 

Blue was the course I was most excited to play and it 100% lived up to my expectations. I think Doak did an awesome job with the routing, mixing fun short par 4's with longer more challenging ones. Again course is very playable in the wind, greens were smooth and quick. Worth every penny

 

Red was the only course with some "maintenance" as a few of the greens had been sanded. They still rolled fine, and didn't take anything away from the experience. Red is extremely pretty, and I see why it's the most highly ranked of the 3 courses there. However I thought in windy conditions the course wasn't as fun as the other two. To be clear I don't think it's too hard or unfair just more of a grind than the other two. For my taste, I would take the Blue but not going to fight anyone who prefers Red. 

 

Black really is fascinating and I've gone back and forth with my opinions on it. Even if you are turned off by the idea of crazy, undulating greens it is a must play. The second hole is one of my favorites on property, I thought every par 3 was awesome, and the 18th is a great finishing hole. I had no issues with the greens, it's just strange how many blind shots you have out there. Numerous tee shots and approach shots you can't really watch your ball land, and looking at the course from the clubhouse, it seems like something more engaging could have been designed. Upon reflection though the course was a lot of fun and I'd definitely play it every time I go back.

 

Based on previous posts there were some maintenance concerns with grass and nematodes. Each course was in awesome condition, and only red had the few sanded greens. Some people complained about service and prices, we had no issues with getting food in a timely manner and felt the prices were fair. Granted the resort was not anywhere near capacity the week before christmas so when it's busier perhaps service falters a bit. Booking everything online was pretty seamless other than some confusion with our reservation to play Black. If you book online I would suggest you just call the resort ahead of time to confirm everything is booked. (I had no trouble getting people to pick up the phone when I called with other questions) 

 

If you're thinking about going to Streamsong, you won't regret it. I'm not sure I'd pay the 400+ dollars for a tee time during prime season, but playing those courses for less than 250 a round, I was very satisfied.

Nice review. I tend to agree with the order of your course preferences, although I tend to play whichever one I can get the best tee time on as they are all quite good .

Great review!  Looking at going back as it's been a few years.  Great to hear that conditions are still top notch.
