I dont know where the appropriate place for this to go is... 

 

I booked a hotel at Homewood Suites in Augusta thinking my dad would want to stay that night instead of drive up from HHI. He doesn't. I called the hotel, spoke to a manager who said they are unable to cancel the reservation even though I booked with points. They did indicate I can add someone to the reservation no problem though. Reservation is for a 1 Bedroom suite with 1 king and a pullout. 

 

Please DM me if you are interested in the reservation. We can work something out.

I’d be on the phone with Hilton corporate customer service. Just saying.  They’re better than that treatment.

Geez, they could probably sell the night(s) to someone else for $$$ rather than giving it to you for points.

Hilton Corporate wont intervene either- I called and spoke to someone, then asked politely to have it escalated. I made the argument about being able to sell the room for ~$2k vs me on points- manager didnt care. If anyone can use it- DM me and I'll walk you through process and we can figure out a reasonable trade. Worst case is likely we will use it and sleep in on Friday vs driving up from HHI at 0500.

Better than following the terms he agreed to?  The cancelation terms when he booked are right on the final cancellation screen and I would guess indicated the reservation is non refundable.  I looked at the big chain hotels to book with points and they were all non-refundable so I booked in Columbia, SC where they have the normal cancelation policies.  These places know how this works.  Surprisingly they aren't allowed to jack up the standard availability rates on points like they do cash.  There are still 50k/night Hilton rooms in town.  Here is what the first one I looked at says regarding cancellation terms:

 

"If you cancel for any reason, attempt to modify this reservation, or do not arrive on your specified check-in date, your payment is non-refundable."

In my experience with Hilton, they don’t play those silly games with their Diamond club members.

Hampton Inn in Waynesboro available for Wednesday and Thursday night. Two Queen beds. Can easily add your name to the reservation. DM if interested.
