Rotator Cuff Exercises?....

I was wondering if anyone has bad rotator cuffs, yes age is catching up with me. If so what do you do for exercising and stretching?....

 

I am looking for both stretching nad strengthening exercises...

I will se if I can find the sheet I got from my PT. I had a small tear in my shoulder and I did a lot of stuff with rubberbands and light weight.

Yes, I had a bad right one a few years ago, it is age (and at the time I found out how common an injury it was)!!

 

Here are my suggestions:

 

1) Take this injury very seriously, I didn't know what mine was at first and by not attending to it right away, it got worse. It came to a point where I couldn't raise my right arm above shoulder height without severe pain.

 

2) Don't try and rehab yourself. The exercises are simple and there are dozens of them available for the rotator cuff. But this doesn't mean you shouldn't see a pro for this one.

 

By seeing a Physiotherapist, you can be well on your way to recovery reliably and in the shortest amount of time . I could tell you what I did and what I still do to keep both of mine strong and from getting re-injured, but a Physio can assess where you are with yours. When you have an injury, the Physio will walk you through recovery.

 

By self assessing, you may cause more damage by trying to do too much too soon before the injured area is ready.

 

Baby steps are required, so you can make slow and steady progress, esp when the injury is serious.

 

 

I learned all this the hard way. Find yourself a very good physio. If you are like me, as you get into your late 30's, you may find that your weak areas will begin to get exposed. Even if you think you are taking good care of yourself, sometimes you learn that in your excercise program you overlooked properly maintaining and/or strengthening a specific area of your body like a knee or a shoulder.

 

A physio, good chiropractor and a good massage therapists become your best allies at dealing with these middle age syndromes!

Well I have been living with 2 bad ones for 25 years now, hurt them poll vaulting... I have been doing exercises for that amount of time. Worse thing is the last time I went in they told me just keep doing the exercises, light weight lifts, stretching, pushing against a wall etc.

 

I learned all this the hard way. Find yourself a very good physio. If you are like me, as you get into your late 30's, you may find that your weak areas will begin to get exposed.

 

Yeah I remember them days.... Thanks for the Input...I will keep trying to stretch them out and I guess try to swing softer... yeah like that will happen...

Another article to check out is Cracking the Rotator Cuff Conundrum by Eric Cressey. It helped me understand how important it is to take care of the shoulder joint and what I needed to do to get mine back in shape.
