Event has been around forever. Some love it and some hate it. I’m a big fan of independent events so we’ve played it forever. Played it again this year. 
 

sad to see such a long standing and well reputed event have such a bad showing as they had this year. As someone who runs a tourney, I empathize with those faced with difficult circumstances and the difficult decisions that come along with that. 
 

but their inability to be prepared for, and execute contingency plans was an absolute shitshow. 
 

rain hampered the event all week, starting on day 1. But on day 1, a brief rain delay at 6:05 PM turned into sending everyone home for the day when the storm had cleared by 6:20 and daylight allowed for play until about 7:45 (course was very playable)
 

So they spent day 2 getting in as much as possible and, as day 3 started, it became apparent that round 2 players wouldn’t finish until 12:00. 
 

at 12:30 they announced that final round tee times would start at 12:30 (you read that right), and final group would go off at 2:37. They cram 240 players into event so pace runs 5-5.5 hours. They were doomed. 
 

So play commences, leaderboard completely changes, rain comes in at 6:15 and they wash it. Revert to 36 holes. 
 

No thought given to shotgun start at 12:30-1:00. No thought given to sending off those who had already finished prior to 12:30. No texts with updates. No website updates. Just a tee sheet update at 12:30 with tee times starting at 12:30. 
 

Ironic thing is, the rain saved them the embarrassment they truly deserved. Final group wouldn’t have finished before dark. They were on 12 green at 6:15 having teed off at 2:40 and had to play 6+ holes in 1.5 hours. They should have had the embarrassment of having final group in 17 fairway at dark. 
 

anyway, sad to see.

I played in this in 1979.  3 putted the last hole to shoot 77 and miss the cut by one. I remember  Jack Nicklaus II was in the group behind me, his dad was following him, it was distracting.   Wanye Player made the cut on the number and shot lights out after and won.

Nothing to do with quality of field. All about time management and contingency plans with weather delays that you knew had a high likelihood of occurring.
