Getting the face in a stronger position (video included)

I'm struggling to get a feel for a more square/stronger face, particularly with driver (I feel like it's harder to feel the face w/ driver). My instructor told me that it would help to feel a trail wrist extension or lead wrist flexion to fix this. However, when I try to really get the face square in transition, I tend to suffer from pull/hooks (I'm used to fades). There are other things to work on (ball position was too far forward here, etc.), but this has been my hardest to fix.

Any tips or feels that have worked for you guys on this?

Looks like the dreaded one piece takeaway getting the club inside with no

wrist set and very flat swing followed by the right arm bending too much.

These need fixing before working on transition

Hi GoGo.

I have similar issues. Can you expound on what you are suggesting for a fix? Is it more wrist set and keeping the right arm more extended? I've seen the ProSendr tries to get you to do that more. I've also seen some of the AMG videos that talk about not letting the left arm cross your chest as much that seems related to the right elbow over bend.

Yes hips got too turned too early in backswing and wrists set too late. Caused body too get too open (especially shoulders) on downswing and leave arms behind

So more trail wrist extension at takeaway?

I can definitely see the right arm bend too much. I need to think more width I suppose.

Thanks Monte! I'll think earlier trail wrist extension.

Regarding hips turning early—I try to think squat move as soon as I get left, which turns the hips for me. How should I think about hip turn?

It’s more than that. You need vertical hinge as well, some left side bend.

True, I guess it's kind of radial and extension of the right wrist, right? Basically need to stand the club up a bit more. Never thought about needing more left side bend at takeaway but I can try it. Thanks GoGo!

I mean backswing hip turn. You max out too early

You say you hit pulls/hooks and this is another case of how ironically the low and left release and follow-through causes the ball to go left.

Here's a freeze frame of Jack Nicklaus hitting driver in 1965 Masters en route to winning by 9 strokes. Paradoxically his sort of release/follow-through (as long as the grip isn't too strong) is anti-left.
