TaylorMade Tour Burner & Tour Burner TP

Recommended Posts

I have a non TP 10.5 with a Fuji 60g stiff. I love the feel and forgiveness of this club - it beats my R7 460TP in both these departments easily, BUT I can't get the same height on my drives, hence I'm losing carry. What can I do to increase my initial launch?? Anything?

Change your swing or change equipment I guess?

Remember to keep that right shoulder down. :good:

Your handicap is pretty low so I'm sure you know better than I do.

Thanks for your encouragement but I was thinking more along the lines of a shaft change?? I know why I don't get much height - I find I have more control if I set-up with a little forward shaft lean...

I know the best way to increase launch is to go up in loft, but I was just wondering if there was a particular type of shaft that may help

I have had this club for a couple months and love it. for me the ball will never go right unless something went totaly wrong. my misses seems to be a pull, a very long pull, hit a military hanger some 275+ yards down the fairway over a road and 30 foot fence. It might just be me but I dont hear the ball hit the club face at all, maybe thats a good thing. I hit this thing every chance I get because i feel i will never hit a bad shot with it.

I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT SHAFTS, ALTHOUGH THE STOCK SHAFT IS OK, DOES ANY ONE HAVE OPIONS OF AN EPIC SHAFT IN THE NON TP MODEL

Drank the Taylormade "longer shaft, lighter shaft and club head" Kool-Aide. Installed UST v2 shaft (my favorite bang for the buck shaft) in the Tour Burner. At first the Taylormade Kool-Aide tasted yummy. Set aside my trusty Titleist 905R with UST V2. Took a few more gulps of Taylormade's Kool-Aide. Last gulp I kept in my mouth, swishing it around for a while, trying to savor the bouquet. Went to the driving range again and again with Kool-Aide still swishing in my mouth. Drives all very long, but 50% of the time, not accurate. 30 yards left, down the middle, 20 yards right, middle, balloon shot, middle... etc. etc.

Spit out the Taylormade Kool-Aide in the bunker on 18. What was I thinking?

If the average driver length on the PGA tour is 44.5", amateurs have no business swinging 45.5 and longer drivers. Also, unless you have a really slow swing speed, lighter can mean less accurate. If you only hit the sweet spot 50% of the time with a longer/lighter club, it really isn't really going to be longer than a 44.5" club hitting it on the sweet spot 80% of the time, is it?

Lesson learned. Silly me. Taylormade Tour Burner sold.

Also, keep in mind that Taylormade Drivers have very shallow bore depths which will affect the shaft more dramatically than you think. The UST Proforce in my Titleist 905 R is outstanding, but that is a bore-through design, resulting in a firmer tip flex. In the Taylormade, the identical V2 in the same flex felt a fair bit softer and definitely more whippy.

I have tested both and feel as though the Ping Rapture has a mid launch with not much spin.

The TM launches much higher for me and produces low spin.

I had the ping rapture in play for almost a year with 9deg and a Graffaloy Comp NT Prototype Stiff shaft and would get nice distance with it but with quiet alot of roll. I have recently switched to the TM Tour Burner TP in 9,5 with a Graffaloy ProLite 35 in Stiff and feels much more powerfull.

I am getting Longer and higher flights with it and it fits the eye much better.

My swing speed is +-105

Hope this has helped
can you confirm if the TP version is indeed 2deg open? And would anyone know if the non TP version is square or closed faced. Thanks for your help.
On average, it's closer to 1* open and 1* closed for the TP and non-TP versions, respectively. Both of mine came visually open at address, but I've heard some reports of people who got them and the TP was closer to square.

I bought a head from a shop in FLA that has an ebay shop. It is a 10.5*, TP and it's a non-retail head-- a so called tour van head. It came in plastic wrap with a bunch of testing numbers on it. The true lift was 11.4*, and it was 4* degrees open. It was hot melted and core tested. It was a new head. I put a Grafalloy ProLaunch Red in Reg. flex in it, cut to 45." I get a terrific high and flat flight from this set up, but most important to me is the re-entry angle. It's also pretty flat-- 35-40*. My roll-out is fantastic! I've added about 15 yards of carry, and 5-10 yards of roll.

Here's what I don't like-- the face is very hard. There is a harsh feeling at contact that I am not used to-- even when I flush it. Don't get me wrong, it's not startling, but I'm more used to almost no feeling at all at at impact when I flush it. Having said that, I can't find anything that outperforms this set-up and head-- even my beloved Exotics!

Paid $61 for the head, and $49.95 for the shaft! Sweeeet!!!
