Frustration to the 100th power...

driver woes, and inconsistent iron distances...

this is a just a rant so bear with me, or feel free to share your frustrations as well...

still working on a body release taking the hands out of it, and it's been working well for my irons... my miss with them is the same everytime, a slight push, with an occasional big push... no big deal there, i can work with that...

of course then there's the issue of having been hitting my 7 iron about 150 yards over the last few weeks, which i know is going to increase as the season goes on and should be up around 160-165 by midseason and should be consistant...

so what happens this afternoon...? i hit a 7 iron into a par 3 green, slightly downhill (161 to the center), i put it about 8 paces onto the front of the green, i'm golden... (i 3 putted for a bogey which is another story)... i then later get to another simliar yardage par 3 (about 150 to the center), plays uphill by about 1/2-3/4 club, you can't see the green at all from the tee though, so i take out the 7 iron, and i knew i caught is nice and clean, same feel as the previous par 3, i see it hit to the right of the stick from the bounce... well i make my way up to the green, and where do i find the ball...? laying at 175 yards (25 yards behind the hole)... UGH... :clapping:

i was starting to groove my irons cause the previous hole a par 4 plays about 350 yards to a severly elevated green, i tee off with a 6 to layup on the plateau so i didn't have to hit uphill, and i nailed that 6 over the hump, and must have got a huge kicked, cause when i got up to the ball it was 225 yards from the tee...

the real kicker of the whole afternoon was my complete inability to find a fairway with the driver... EVERYTHING was a huge fade finding it's way behind trees, and just completely making it a miserable day... it was unreal, like i'd never hit a driver ever in my life...

no idea what i was doing either... :clapping:

I feel your pain, It seems the only thing the swing changes have done to help my game is make my short game so much better, Today i went out and all of a sudden i was hitting a 7 150(normal 165-170) and hitting my driver freaking 230! Then i got to our 7th hole which plays 125 and i hit 6 smooth PWs at it, put 5 within 10 feet and hit the other in the bunker because my sunglasses fell off during my swing, its like i would be look amazing at the Master's during the Par 3 contest and then look like i am a 30 handicapper once you put a club longer than a wedge in my hand for the actual tournament

 

Is there a pro pitch and putt tour?

lol... i hear ya man... cause all the blocks right i had today, i had as many 40-60 yard pitch shots that i was able to put within 10' of the cup...

 

of course making a putt was like an act of congress... :clapping:

If your hitting big pushes your arms are running off from your body and since your not using your hands to square the face up the ball is just going way right. Finding the correct set up and dialing it in (perfect in to out to in path) and getting everything to work together is tough but it is great when you get it :clapping:

when i first started to make the swing changes, this exact same thing happened to me.

 

i found out that i didnt have enough tilt away from the target, and i had a bad grip.

 

next thing you know, i'm puring every shot.

I have gone through everything possible making sure it was correct and somehow everything is still way too inside and shallow, i was actually hitting some 7 irons about 145 where the divot started 2 inches behind the ball but was so shallow it barely affected it!

 

Its the first time i think i have ever wanted to hang up the clubs

i know i had to be coming over the top with the driver, but not being able to see it is killing me... i need to hire a camera crew to follow me on the course... :clapping:

 

i was farily happy with the iron play aside from the distance variances... if i could hit my 7 iron 175 yards all day i'd be just fine... :clapping:

nope, feels like I am taking it outside now, its in a much better position, I think i need to just go to the range for a month, have proper fundamentals and just swing until i start hitting it with a good ballflight again, no matter what it looks like or if it is technically sound

had some instruction this afternoon from Leigh at GG in Philly, i've seen him a few times before and he always seems to give me some good things to work on...

 

i've apparently been taking the club away too much inside and then getting under plane coming into the ball all accentuated by not clearing out my hips, so i'm getting stuck behind the ball and either blocking it right or flipping to save it... or just leaving the face wide open and getting that nasty fade...

 

he had me trying to hit balls with all kinds of props up, and it sure as heck seemed like i was never going to be able to hit a clean shot with all that stuff but i was able to...

 

hopefully i can translate some of this out on the range / course now...
