PING WRX Wedge Grinds

IS there an EYE2+ grind?

I love my EYE2+ wedges but am looking to update to Tour-W's. I know they have wedge grinds available through the WRX's department but do PING offer an EYE2+ grind? I hear it is available via special request.
Does anyone have this grind on their PING wedges other than EYE2+ or has anyone else heard about this grind?

I have heard that there are so many people that love the wedges of the EYE2+ that Ping designed the "i-wedge" to satisfy the need.

That is what I heard about the i wedge but it is not the same as the EYE2+. A friend of mine said that a PING rep mentioned the EYE2 grind to him at a demo day. It's the first I have heard of it but I am very interested.

The Ping Wrx department can apply a special grind that's not in their catalog but you have to call them to discuss. However, I can't speak specifically about an EYE2+ grind.

As easyyy said, the i-wedge was developed because so many players loved the Eye2+ wedges. You're right though, they're just not the same.

 

To my knowledge, through special order with Ping WRX you can order new Eye2+ wedges with special grind options. The only one I've seen is a Solus style grind. Mark Calcavechhia has this style grind on his Eye2+ BeCu wedges (although BeCu is only available in limited numbers on tour).

 

Here's his bag from Golf Digest. The grind is particularly distinguishable on his SW.

Calc's Eye2s don't have a grind - that's just how they are normally (Ping calls it a sand cup sole). Eye2s already have a strong bounce grind and WRX normally doesn't offer any grinds. They also look like the original "square groove" models, +no+ maybe..

I know the i-wedges have the sand cup sole but i'm not sure about the eye2+.

 

This is the best picture I could find. You can see that the sole on Calc's is certainly different (the grind on his goes through the S on the sole).

Not to thread-jack but that's a neat picture of Calc's Lob wedge! I've got a BECU EYE2 sand wedge that I "customized" myself and the grind on that appears to be almost exactly like his. I ground off a TON of material from the Heel and cut a channel in the flange similar to that and ground the trailing edge to further reduce the bounce. Interesting pictures that confirm I'm not too off in my thinking of how to reduce the bounce on one of these babies.

 

Now, back to your question. From what I've heard, the WRX department of PING has some real craftsmen that can produce almost anything you can dream up. (For a price) I would imagine that they could replicate the EYE 2+ grind on almost any of their wedges......

Calc's look like an original EYE2 wedge but with the EYE2+ GRIND. I am after something similar to that grind, does anyone know if it can be done on the TOUR-W's for JOE PUBLIC?

Sorry mate, just realised what you were asking (obviously didn't read your first post properly).

 

I haven't seen any examples of it but I would have thought the Ping WRX guys would do something similar, yes.

 

If you contact them with your query they should let you know quite quickly. I've heard nothing but good things about the service offered by them.

the i wedge with the b grind will get you pretty darn close... that is what i have on my 58

Asked ping a "generic can it be done" question, but there were lots of questions about bounces and lofts, so your best bet is contact them directly and have a chat about it .
