The $'s are not the issue, muni's so cost is relatively low, tee times booked days in advance with certain # reserved for walk ups, they are known to spend the night in the parking lot to secure playing priviledges. There are brokers who advertise available times, but costly. As for the courses, they're great, scenery, trees & ice plant. If you're a good player & are up for the challenge, the South course from the tips is one of the toughest courses I have played. The North course is more playable for most, and IMO the more scenic of the two.

I played the south course a year ago. Was visiting my daughter during Feb. Sent the wife and daughter shopping and just showed up at 6 am. I was put on the wait list and 30 minutes later was on the tee. The course was great. I have played pebble beach a couple of times and I think Torry Pines is just as nice for a lot less money.

Just my humble opinion

same here played South course back in Feb. right after the Buick. Walked on and only had to wait about 30 minutes as well. Get there early and just put your name on the list and then just putt around and hit balls until they call your name.

SC cost was $75 walking because I was not a resident. NC is cheaper but wanted to play the SC. Greens where in great shape but they started to plug the fairways so they where a little chewed up but it was a perfect day and a great course to play. Played the tips as far back as they would let us and shot 73 for the first time playing it.

Well worth the experience............

There are several other courses in the area that are must play courses as well. I was out there playing for 3 weeks so played everything I could get on at.

Steel Canyons

La Costa

Del Mar National

and several more.............

Torrey is nice, both courses are worth playing, but like stated there are courses just as nice, i used this tee time broker to play Aviara when i went, i believe they can also book Torrey.

Torrey has some beautiful views. Aviara is a fantastic course and i would highly recommend it. I will be playing it again, next time i am in SD.

I had no issues getting on Torrey, it was one of the rounds (weather and course) ever. I found Aviara was a overpriced, but a good course. A short drive and your in Carlsbad, home to some of the best names in Golf. Back in the day, you could go into the Ashworth building and pick up clothes dirt cheap. I think they had done away with this except for pros.

Enjoy the Gas lamp district of SD if possible.

I guess I'm the only one who has had a problem getting on the South course.

I went outthere twice on business trips. After making my morning appointments, I went to Torrey around lunch time and put my name on the South course list. Both times, after several hours, I gave up because the sunset time was going to be a factor and I still hadn't been called.

One day I'll get on. :cheesy:

torrey pines is great for the price. then again, i am a resident so i play at twilight for about $20. imo the south is the course to play, just cant pass up the opportunity to play a course the will host the us open. del mar nat. also rates high on my list, i've played it on several occasions and would play it again in a heartbeat. also, maderas is a great course that i dont think anyone has mentioned. its pricey but very nice, good layout...
