Comments on Matrix shafts

New to the site and must say I'm impressed with all the data and comments here. Good stuff!

I recently had Matrix Studio 84 shafts installed in my Driver, 3 and 5 woods:

Driver: R7 460 TP - 8.5* - Studio 84 x

3 wood: R7 Ti TP - 14.5* - Studio 84 x

5 wood: Cobra SZ 17* - Studio 84 x

Got fitted for these and have made a big difference in performance on the course. Here are my fitting specs:

- avg swing speed - 111 (will dip up towards 115 on some)

- recommended 8* driver since I was launching at 18* with prior 10* standard 460 with stock stiff shaft

- Freq speced the shafts at 271

- Considered a Hitter with the transistion little more towards agressive

In hearing about the other Matrix shaft products Xcon, TP, and others I was wondering if I could potentially get anything better in the 460 TP driver. I haven't returned for a swing analysis with the new shaft, but the trajectory is definitely better, control is solid now, and distance pick up 5-10 yards. I guess since reading the posts here I'm getting the "bug" to see if I can get anything better.

Any comments on those other Matrix shafts or other possible alternatives is welcomed.

The Matrix Studio shafts are pretty decent. The "might" fit you perfectly. At that kind of swing speed, the difference in spin rate / angle of decent / and launch make a big difference.

For ANYONE to tell you if it would help to step into the "higher end" matrix shafts, we would need to see launch numbers.

Good luck, post some numbers...you'll get some good feedback.

I have a TM 425 TP 9.5 and I have the Xcon6 in it, not the exact same head but pretty similar.

- Tipped so it is playing a bit stronger then Stiif, not sure of the CPM number actually is.

- My swing speed is similar, I am 110 I can go after one at 120 but those typically end up as a push or blocks to the right.

- My launch was just over 13* and my spin rate is below 2500 with this shaft.

- I don't swing hard, so I am not an agressive swinger but pretty smooth and fluid. I am not a big guy, 5'11" 175lbs so most of my power is coming from my core, mechanics and timing.

The xcon is a very smooth shaft, well balanced and solid. You feel in control of the club, I had a V2 HL in there and it was a bit higher but I never really felt connected to the club unlike the xcon6, it feel much like an extention of my arms.

The ball flight is lower then what I expected, it lanches great and then it flattens out and comes down at a good angle. If I could hit some more fairways I could definately get more yardage out of it :P

I have the F6M2 in my driver and I am a big fan. I can get anything I want for free and I play an F6M2 in my driver and a Code 8 in my 4 wood.

They are just so smooth...no other way to put it.

I have tried the code series, xcon and altus and to be honest didnt like any of them at all. Everyone says how smooth they are, to me i could not feel the shaft at all. I like to feel the shaft load and release on the way down and for me these shafts really lacked the feel. The altus also went way too high and spun too much for me. The xcon and code just felt dead. I have just gone to a blueboad and i am far, far happier with the way it feels and performs. I know many people love these shafts but they are just not for me!

I personally dont like them, the wood shafts dont fit me well. I've tried lots of them.

On the other hand I got my FIL some studio74 or his irons and he loves them... I've tried almost ever high dollar lightweight speeder for him and the studios fit the bill. According to him they are pretty soft tipped and have good feel. Helps him get the ball in the air easy.

I'm a big fan of the Matrix shaft lines, especially the F6M2, F7M2, Altus LT, and Altus Hybrid. The Code series doesn't work for me as well nor does the X-Con line, although they are all excellent shafts. It is really important to try the shafts and work with one of the Matrix dealers to get the right one for your swing characteristics.

I recently put a Studio 64 shaft into a retail SuperQuad for a buddy of mine and thought it felt a lot like a Code shaft, but without the "hinge" feeling of the Code-6. The shaft was quite good and you can't beat the price when comparing it to the Ozik line.

I have one of the new Studio 54 shafts being installed in a 3 wood for my wife. According to my Matrix dealer (excellent guy --> GolfWRX ID: mrekalic) it's a brand new offering that is based off one they have been using for the ladies tour models. It looks like it will be a great option for those looking for a super-light shaft without having to buy an X-Con 5.

Once you find the right shaft for your swing, you won't want anything else. Good luck on your quest!
