Anyone know what this is?

I'm an inexperienced clubbuilder starting my first reshafting of a set of irons. When I pulled these PX's from some mp-67's I found them to be somewhat crimped.

Could somebody explain why they'd be like this and if they'll affect an install into different heads? Your help is much appreciated:)

Pretty much. It doesnt hurt anything. Were you worried that it may have been affecting performance? You were all: THATS why Ive been missing greens!!!! :)

Nah, wooden dowels should have no problem squeezing in there.  If anything, it may seat them more securely even before epoxy is applied.  Everyone is loving these dowels, I wonder if they really make a diff in terms of dampening.  I actually enjoy the harsh feel of a bad shot, hence bagging the J33B, so I dont think I would need em.  Im just retarded enough to install em for fun though, so let me know how much of a diff it makes in the Mizzys...

 

btw:  I actually HATE to hear Mizzy & Titleist, it just sounds sooo............ :russian_roulette:

Those are shaft dimples. Shaft dimpling was originally done to provide a mechanical bond between the hosel and shaft in addition to the epoxy bond. This started during the period when shafting epoxy was good enough to obviate shaft pins, but before epoxy technology got as good as it is today (when dimpling and pinning are both generally unnecessary). I still have a pair of vice grips that have been modified to dimple a shaft and dimple every steel iron shaft that I install - just feels right to do it that way. Matt
