How much does adding length to irons change the flex?

say I had a 7.0 rifle shaft and played it at an inch over. Would this make it play weaker than one at standard length?

It shouldn't change much due to the fact that the extra inch added is at the largest part of the shaft... balances out the effect of added length. Rifle states it on their website.

Every added inch of length will result in a swing weight change of 6 points. Each swing weight points will equate to a change of 1 cpm in shaft flex. So a shaft that is 1 inch longer will be approx 6cpms softer in flex, this would be (again approx) 1/2 a flex.

A9: This is an unusual occurrence (see above), but sometimes happens when building new clubs. This requires that a lighter clubhead be used. When this is done the shaft definitely becomes stiffer. The butt end, which we know to be the stiffest part of the shaft, is increased and the head weight is reduced to keep swingweight value the same as before. Therefore the shaft has been strengthened and the amount of the headweight it has to hold has been reduced.

A10: This is also an unusual occurrence, but sometimes a club is built shorter and a heavier head is used to keep the swingweight the same as it was at the longer length. When this is done the shaft will become weaker. The butt end of the shaft has been shortened and the head weight has been increased, both of which contribute to making the shaft weaker (more flexible).
