After Market Shafts (BB)

After market driver & fairwood shafts
I am a female golfer with a driver ss of 90mph. I am currently gaming the Callaway FT-i 9 degree with a Fujikura Speeder 586 shaft. I was custom fitted for this driver via a launch monitor. My stats were ideal concerning ball spin and launch angle. However, I could not try any of the high dollar after market shafts like the Blueboard.

I am a low single digit handicap golfer and I am looking to gain additional distance off the tee. My driving accuracy for 2008 was 89.4% fairways hit in 75 rounds of golf. I will be playing in more tournaments this year and am looking for any added edge that I can gain from equipment.

I am wondering if a 53 gram Diamana Blue Board or another type of aftermarket shaft would assist me in adding an additional 10 - 15 yards in distance off of the tee. I know that I should go and test them out, but I haven't been able to find a dealer that allows individuals to hit high dollar shafts in various drivers.

I would like to hear from the rest of the Golf WRX's out there that have equivilant swing speeds. I have read the reviews concerning the BB on this site, but everyone seems to have 100+ mph ss and that doesn't help me out much.

Wife wife is a strong player and has comparable swing speeds. She tinkered with many shafts but after working with the technican at matrix decided to install a Matrix X-Con 5 in her Callaway Hyper-X driver. The accuracy and distance improvements are obvious.

My wife is also a strong player and we worked with a Matrix dealer to identify the proper shafts. She is currently testing a Studio 54 shaft in her 3-wood (yes, I said 54). We are also considering the X-Con 5 or possibly a Code-5 if we can find one.

SOsburn, you may want to contact Joe Kwok to see if he can help you. I'm sure you know he is a Sponsor/Insider here and has helped many WRX members and services the Pro's. Start with him.

True Temper supposedly has "shaft labs" in various retail locations throughout the country where you can be thoroughly fitted for shafts beyond the launch monitor (which is really not all that accurate)...you still need to research locations because for example they have a location listed near me which has been closed for quite a while (and frankly I'm not sure they ever did have the Shaft Lab setup).

http://www.truetemper.com/shaftlab/index2.html

With a lot of the testing, its dependent upon who is interpreting the data, so your results may vary...but worth a try.

Golfsmith's site has a handy tool to identify aftermarket shafts based on swing speed, since they have tested the various flexes to see what the "real" flex is. For example, one brand of shaft at your swing speed will be squarely in men's senior/lite flex, another will put it squarely in men's regular flex, another will have it in between. Flex of shaft which is optimal for you is not just based on your swing speed, but how you "load" the shaft (which is a measure of how much energy you create/unload at impact). That's why having someone really measure how a shaft reacts to your swing is so critical. A stiffer flex might not get you extra yards if it doesn't unload properly at impact.

It's not how...it's how many

What she said. Shaft fitting is an integral part of the Callaway iron fitting cart. Or so I was told at the time. We played with several different heads (lie) and shafts (length, flex, etc) before settling on the set up that I eventually purchased. He doesn't have quite the same flexibility and range for driver fitting, so lost that part of the sale. He refused to sell me something that wouldn't provide a substantial improvement. It's got to be pretty hard to locate someone with knowledge across several manufacturer's lines to be able to compare and contrast the subtleties of each. This question might be better addressed on the open-ended side of the board vs. here in "ladies". Those guys know everything, just ask them.

I was custom fitted for my irons and wedges by Callaway. However, I was custom fitted for my driver by a local pro shop, which didn't have all the top end shafts. I guess I need to go to Callaway and test out some of the high end shafts. I find that the I-MIX doesn't have all of the shafts that I want to test, so I don't have to many options.
