Club Fitting In Boston

I recently moved to Cambridge, MA and am looking for a great golf shop/fitting center. I am in the market for new irons, but the bitter winter cold seriously limits one's options for testing. Obviously the more advanced indoor facilities, the better. Can anyone in or around the Boston area offer a suggestion for the best place to shop for new sticks? Thanks in advance.

You may want to check any of the number of Golfers Warehouse locations in the Greater Boston area. You can find them at www.golferswarehouse.com. I also would recommend a trip out to Shrewsbury to see the folks at Pro Golf Discount. The owner Tom, is a great guy, they all know their stuff and have been a pleasure to do business with. I highly recommend them.

I'll have to check them out... it shouldn't be too bad of a drive from where I am, just outside of the city...

 

I also heard of an indoor facility out in Natick, but I'd prefer to stay off of the Pike ;)

Hmmm... that's odd... just checked the GW site; it only had Natick, Braintree and Danverse for Massachusetts locations... ;)

I 2nd the Golfer's Clubhouse. They are soon going to be offering the HotStix club fitting program. The manager at Natick Eric Jewett is a solid guy and will not BS you. I work almost next door to this store and spend lots of time (and money) there. You can also take Rt.9W to get out there. It's right across the road from the Natick Mall on Speen St.

 

As for an indoor facility in Natick....not that I am aware of and I have worked out there for 2.5years. Good Luck,

On Speen Street in Natick there is a City Golf facility with two simulators, a large putting green, and hitting bays. Additionally, there is heating driving range on Rt 9 East in Southboro, just a short ride up the rode, and one off of Rt. 9 West in Northboro.

Thanks for the info. As a transplanted west-coaster, this cold winter takes some getting used to. The only golf rounds I have been playing are the vicarious sort. Still, the weather won't stop me from preparing for the upcoming season and tinkering away with new gear.

GW is a nice facility to try clubs out, however their prices (specifically on club work and shafts etc) are a bit much, in my mind. City golf aka Golf Masters is a nice proshop, partnered with a driving range a short golf cart ride away.

 

My advise, if you can wait until April, check out www.stowacres.com

 

They have a demo day usually in April with all the major brands there, and clubfitting is a snap. Best of luck, and drop me a line when the weather warms if you want to play some time.

there's a head pro out here in Tampa from back home in MA & his brother is the headpro at Franklin Country Club & is very good. when I am home I have Tom Spargo work on my clubs who works with many tour guys besides me & he is the best around but he is about an hour from you in Warwick but being from Dartmouth MA it's only about a 30minute drive, the other guy is Chris Mitson who used to work at Golfers Warehouse but now works out of another place & not sure where. Spargo is probably the best though bc all of the tour guys from the area goto him, that's how i found out about him. i'll be home for a few days on wednesday before coming back to Tampa & I'll get you the info on Chris Mitson if you'd like. Shreve let me know if you'd ever like to get together for some golf, there's another golfwrx member who I play with often on my off weeks on tour & would love to get more guys. There is a pro/am down the Cape on the 1st week of June which my golfwrx buddy is trying to get me to play in & 2 other am players to play in, not sure if your interested. If your really interested in Spargo send me a PM/email, he's one of the best clubmakers around, been in the top 100 the past 2 years. 1 more guy to see is Rick Flynn @ that golf shop or something like that, i've met him from on here & he's a reliable guy also. I only tell you see Spargo bc thats where all the tour guys goto back home. hope this helps

Shook and Homstylz, thanks for the invites. I would love to get out after the great thaw. If you don't mind playing with a rusty 8 hcp, I would appreciate meeting some local golfers. I am a doctoral student living the typical hermit lifestyle and unfortunately golf is pretty much left for the summer. However, when it warms I will be in contact. And thanks again for the club fitting suggestions.

I second Spargo Golf if you are looking for a club builder - Tom is a great guy, I have worked with him for many years.

 

Another retail outlet is Joe and Leigh's at Pine Oaks Golf club in South Easton, MA - They are routinely one of the top 100 golf shops in America, they have a great and knowledgeable staff there as well! I feel that they are better than the Golfers Warehouses IMHGWO.

Frank Viola, who is located in Saugus MA. He pays great attention to detail and has just about every tool you could imagine to get a customization done right....including a wood bending machine. He also has a Flightscope launch monitor.

Someone asked about Wishon, he carries them...and also is able to get heads only from some of the bigger companies such as Adams and TaylorMade.

If you're anywhere in MA area you should see what he has to offer.

another vote for Frank Viola, he is the only person I let work on my clubs....even my grips. This guy does it all and has an indoor fitting area. He has trackman and all the monitors you want. I've been with Frank for the last 3 years.

Nobody better IMO than Frank Viola. Ive had him do tons of work for me and he never ceases to amaze me with his customer service and attention to detail. I have recommended many people to Frank and none have ever been disappointed.
