Titleist AP1's vs. Callaway X-22's

I am down to these 2. Please weigh in.

I have narrowed my iron search to these 2. Anybody hit both and what did you think?

By the way, I also had narrowed my search to the 909d2 and the diablo. I hit both today and it wasn't close. The Titleist blew the Diablo away. What a great feeling driver. The Diablo is good but, even in neutral, it looks so closed.

I tried both at a demo day and I was much more impressed with the AP1s. They had a better feeling (more like forged) when flushed. The X-22's were a bit harder. I'm told that the feel of the AP1s probably comes from the elastomer in the cavity. That's OK with me. I was also slightly more impressed with the forgiveness of the AP1s.

To my eye, the thinner topline and ferrule were more appealing than the X-22. The AP1 is still a little "clunky" but, not as much as the X-22. Since I'm probably going to move down from a forged players club, this is important. There have been some threads that talk about the AP1s appearance going down rather quickly. You may want to check on that.

The stock shaft of the X-22 is a Uniflex which was just OK. Not sure how it would be for someone with a faster swing than mine. I'm about an 85mph with a 6 iron. The AP1s come with the Dynamic Gold High Launch and you can get R300 or S300. I liked the feel of this shaft better than the Uniflex but, both clubs can be customized. I also hit Dynamic Gold and Project X in both but, you can get the X-22s in a flighted Project X where I think that only the standard Project X is available for the AP1s. I may be wrong on this.

In the end, I'm planning on getting customized AP1s later this summer.

+1 for the ap1

hit both at the clubfitter. x22 felt harder. i am a mid to high handicapper, but can hit the ap1 pretty decent (i have to admit my iron game was never a problem for my game). and they feel just good.

+ 1 for AP1's.

I hit the X-22, and they don't feel as buttery as the AP1s. I LOVE my AP1s. I am mid-high capper as well and i have no problems getting my irons up high and far. Very forgiving.

regarding the 'looks' after a few uses: The AP1s shiny finish WILL get effed up fast! After a few range sessions and a few rounds, it looked as if i had my irons for a year. They scratch easily but again, this all adds character to your irons. I don't even notice it anymore. Just something you notice when you get BRAND new irons.
