There is an advantage

I've owned both GPS and laser - I ended up being a strong laser proponent just because it provided me the most important info that I couldn't get otherwise (exact yardage to the pin from inside 100 yards) and could, usually, give me yardages to all kinds of other handy stuff (like flags at the range, that tree over there, are the guys in front out of range, etc). I do run into blind targets on occasions, but those circumstances are rare for me (might not be for others).

I use a Nikon 500G model which I like because it is very compact (fits easily in my front pocket). It is better than the average rangefinder but probably not as good as the Bushnell Pinseeker models (regarding finding a pin at a distance).

While my club has reflectors in all the flags (making finding a pin from even 250 yards easy), I do play several rounds/months at clubs without reflectors. So I am familiar with how my rangefinder works on pins without reflectors.

I ran into something that i have never encountered before. I was around 190 yards out and wanted a distance reading. The was zero wind and I just couldn't get a reading! The Nikon won't pick up "the pin" at that distance, but typically the flag is not a problem. But yesterday the flag was TOTALLY limp - and no reading.

It was no big deal (and I've played at least a dozen rounds this year on non-reflector courses) so this is not common. But that was interesting (and would almost certainly not been a problem w/GPS).

But I'm still a laser guy as this (for me) is a rare occurence and a much lower priority than answers that GPS won't answer by definition.

But still ...
