zstar-x vs. B330-S

I spent today with the 2 balls. I normally play the 330s, but I bought a sleeve of the zstar-x I play everyday, weather permitting, I love to test new stuff because I get board. I swing the driver 108 to 111mph.

 

Bottom line, both balls are very close, the z-starx seems to have a little less spin all around, but very close.

 

Distance is the same with both.

 

I played 27 holes with both balls, plus I spent a couple of hours chipping and putting.

 

I could play either one, but I think the 330 is a touch better. Before this year I was a pro v1 guy since they first came out, but this b330s is finally the ball for me.

 

Also, the callaway tour i and ix are by far the worst performers for me. these balls are too light on the putter.

I too have played ProV1xs for the better part of the past 4 years. Since late last year, I started testing out the competition (TP red, Tour iX, B330, etc...) and ended up staying with the ProVs. They just felt better off the club and especialy the putter. Then recently, another member here turned me onto the zStar (non-x) and WOW. :D

 

The ball's distance is as good if not better for me than the others, but the spin around the greens is so much better for me. Let me explain. I put a lot of spin on the ball and though I loved the ProV1x, I always had a problem controlling the backspin, especially around the greens. But these zStars don't spin nearly as much, yet enough for me to control my wedge shots and the like. I'm now a zStar player.

 

I've not tried the zStarX yet as I've heard these are a bit too hard feeling, especially around the green so I'm sticking with the zStar.

 

The B330 is a solid ball though.

Hi, i already did the comaprison between the b330s and the zstar. the regular zstar is like a lady ball with a nice cover on it. the zstar x is closer to the 330s.

 

The 330rx is more like the zstar. they are about the same.

I agree that the B330s is closer to the Sirxon X. Been palying the X for a couple of rounds instead of my B330s. Great ball and distance is as good or better. Better feel off the putter but not quite as much spin around the greens. It will back up nicely though. The X feels a tad bit softer than the B330s. For me I get about 20 more yards with the X compared to the Z Star.

thank you for that info. I was wondering what the zstarx would compare to as far as hardness goes. Is the x going to have less driver spin than the 330s as well?

robert, the zstar x feels to me like it has a little less spin with the driver. The hardness is a tough one. It feels to me a touch firmer than the 330s, but not as firm as a 330 or v1x. The zstarx is by no means a hard ball, I would say it is tward the firm side of the soft balls.

For those who like numbers, herewith are ball compression ratings for the various balls:

 

B330-RX = 65

B330-S = 75

B330 = 90

Z-Star = 90

Z-Star X = 104

You cannot compare the spin of B330S with Star x , Zstar is very comparable with B330 s with B330 s getting the edge for spin . I lose driver distance with B 330 s.There is no ball which comes close to Zstar as far as putting is concerned IMO.
