Told you it was going to be an exciting finish!

I'm glad that we've got a different story than a Phil or Duval win. This is sport, not some low-budget feelgood movie. There's way too much Phil and Tiger hype as it is. I feel bad wanting them to lose, as they're decent guys, but its just way too much circus.

I'm interested in golf, and if this kind of result keeps the casual fans away, so much the better as far as I'm concerned.

And so what if the Masters winner cant speak fluent English? This is a global sport, the more diversity the better.

I'm in the finance business. I don't know a lot about picking major winners, but I do read Barron's regularly. Here's their take from last Friday. Now I must return to counting my money.

:)

Former XM Satellite Radio Channel 146 announcer Bob Bubka (sp) picked Glover on Wednesday after talking to him.

Bob Bubka and Peter Kessler were on-air talking about Dick and Butch. Harmon. It was hilarious.

Don't you think that's kind of elitist?

Thats not how I meant it at all. What I meant was, TV and the media generally want as much hype as they can get and hence just focus on the big names and "stories". I don't give a damn about that, I don't care if a few guys who never follow golf suddenly pay attention and switch on their TV sets for a week or two a year. It doesn't matter to me, and frankly I am happy to be without the brainless coverage that encourages.

If you're in the golf business, then I can see why you want a massive Tiger/Phil roadshow all the time. But I'm not, so I don't :-)

I understand that completely. One thing that always irks me is the insistence of the media to never admit that Tiger is out of it. He was the "Marquee Group" the last two days on the DirecTV channel for the open. Sorry, but a guy who is 14 shots back at one point and who never got closer than three at any point should not be given that entire channel.

Mickelson and Mahan, although long shots, at least had realistic chances to win.

Alas, many fans are front runners. 'tis the nature of the beast.

It was interesting to watch. But I would not call this a great, or even very good US Open.

When the two guys in the final group both try their best to give away a big lead, and noone can take advantage, it makes for a weak tournament IMO.

3-over and 6-over for Glover and Barnes. :russian_roulette: Not exactly what I would call grabbing it by the throat.

I would have preferred to see Duval not get the terrible bunker lie, or Weir actually make a few 5-foot putts, or PM not cough up another major on the last few holes.....ANYTHING other than watching one of the two final group players stumble their way across the finish line. :black eye:

The only thing worse than Glover's 3-over stumble-fumble round was Barnes even WORSE 6-over round that VERY easily could have been MUCH worse. It was painful to watch him putt. The guy was actually scared of the hole.

Not great golf by ANY definition. :black eye:

It was good to watch right up until 16/17 when the people we all wanted to win (Phil, Duval and Fisher for me) tripped up and Glover took advantage by finishing relativley steady...

Well played to Lucas for getting it done, but after all the delays, hype etc it just felt like a flat finish. His victory cele was more of a 'wow did I just win this with a 73' not a 'yehaw, I just won the US Open'
