What's a good pick for stout but smooth hybrid shaft?

I'd be interested as well. I used the NVS 85 hybrid last year and couldn't believe how stout it was. Have heard good things about the Fuji Banzai.

I've never installed an HB-T that the player didn't immediately love. Feel is smooth with a kick. Launch with the high-traj version is high but not high-spin. Weight (around 93 gm) seems to keep guys from trying to nuke it, which is really important with these clubs, since if you get quick you get left so easily. I play them myself in a couple of ZT heads, and I wish they were made in .335 so I could put one in a Cobra - I may just ream out the Cobra head to fit the shaft.

Hi,

This sounds to me like the perfect candidate for the DG Super Lite. Its trimmed weight will be similar to the heavier graphite feel you are looking for. It will also offer the lowest and least likely to go left flight of all shafts available. With sensicore it will even feel graphite-like. And as if that wasnt enough, you can get it for as little as 15 dollars! Compare that to the fujikuras of this world.

I am not sure why people seem so reluctant to use lightweight steel in their fairways and hybrids. I actually find the lower flight of the SL complements the high flight of most hybrids well to give a nice penetrating trajectory. Just my 2 cents......

I tried the following in my Sonartec MD with the following results:

Stock iRod hybrid: Lets just I didnt like this.

Fuji Banzai: Nice shaft very good distance but very high and felt too light.

Aldila NV 85: Very good choice. Great trajectory and smooth feel.

Aldila NV 105: What I am using now. Just like the NV 85 but slightly lower flight and almost steel like weight. I find I like the heavier weight, I seem to be able to control the distance better and it feels closer to an extension of my iron set rather than something between a fairway wood and an iron.

... i've read a lot of good things about the mcc hb-t shafts. it sounds like a good fit for me. i was thinking of the lt version (i certainly quality as a high ball hitter) in the x-1 flex at 40.5-41" playing length.

i'm 115 with the driver, smooth tempo'ed hitter. how stiff do the hb-t's play, maybe compared to the aldila 105 or the speeder 904?

i tried the dgsl in a halo and didn't quite like the performance, but on paper it would seem to be a very good choice ... so, i may try that again. thanks for the suggestion on that one.

i traded a couple pm's with a guy on bsg (don't post there) who is playing 660tr driver, pro95 fw, tour concept x-1's in the irons, which is just about exactly where i'm going. all of these shafts are tight and stout with very smooth feel and easy loading properties. he plays the aldila 105 in his hybrid and likes it, so it may indeed be a great choice for me ... was just concerned that it might be a little boardy compared to those listed above ... apparently it's very smooth, which sounds great.

thanks for the feedback.

I'd suggest the HB-T LT in X1 or X2 subflex, depending how smooth your smooth is. Really either should be just fine - they play solid but not exceptionally stout - it's not a boardy shaft at all. Really the only knock on it is that it's only available in .350 or .370 (you can get the .350 to work in .355 very easily of course). I haven't hit the 904, but compared with the NV105 I consider the MCC to be much more solid in feel - think XD TP vs stock R580.

Project X ... really nice on a hybrid. Hit them hard and no balloon, pretty smooth. Another one is pretty good is Dynamic Gold SL. Another one that works very well Tour concept.

I also tried NSpro 1050 ... No good ... Balloon and not at all "stout"

Didnt really like NV85 for some funny reasons, it feel rather odd.

V2 75 is pretty stout and nice for 3 woods. Currently my favourite.

Stout ... I think Accra Tour HF should be pretty stout and smooth. similar to v2 75 but heavier.
